Dwarf Fortress has that one! @@monorayjak4377 The "bug" was that mermaid skeletons were insanely valuable because they were rare, and they'd just put a bog standard rarity = value kind of price on most things but players of DF are... uhm... well people made mer-catchers, caught a male-female pair, and nature took its course, and the players then made "sieves" to separate the babies from the parents and... YEAH That is pretty much word for word what was placed in the update next to "I've made the price of their skeletons worth the same as any other fish, YOU MONSTERS"

Also remember to comment your code, because nothing is funnier than people checking under your hood and learning something you put in is SOMEHOW interacting with completely unrelated code and everything logical says it shouldn't but somehow if you make this section of code more efficient it causes a specific enemy to spawn upside-down under the ground so they just have to live with 2 FPS less.

@@neoqwerty my guidelines for code and comments: step 1: develop a coding style, particularly with naming functions and variables, that makes it so the code itself answers the question "what does this do?" when you read it. step 2: whenever you do anything even remotely interesting, leave a comment answering the question "why did they do that?" step 3: when you're dealing already written code which doesn't adhere to step 1, rewrite if you have time otherwise make comments adequately answering "what does this do?". It's not always easy to stick to, but it sure helps you be less angry at yourself.

my favourite thing about 100 max players was when I unironically found people complaining that this unsupported and unrecommended feature caused a ton of performance and functionality issues that needed workarounds on the part of the people running the servers on those settings, and that it should therefore never have been made an option.

For features like this, requiring the end user to click through (or, since it's a server feature in this case, provide a meaningful response in place of just a "press any key to continue"-type prompt) should be utilized. Basically, I want to annoy you for using the feature you shouldn't be using so you remember why you shouldn't be using it. It should only be unrestrictedly available to people who are explicitly on the beta testing team.

@@hexagonPie it’s a side on 2D pixel art game about building steampunk airships out of different bits. The most expensive unit for boarding ships is a bunch of mechanical spiders. Before that patch, they were expensive because they were just the best at fighting when boarding. After that patch, they gave them the ability to swing onto other ships instead of just jumping, like one of the other things for boarding can do. So that made them more consistently able to get onto other ships, and more worth the cost.
