I started playing again the other day and didnt really know about the changes in 1.9, but it feels so much better and i am glad that real world setups are more viable and i love the increased rotation on power, as i have always liked power on oversteer. I cant believe that the game has got such a big improvement to handeling so long after release. Its nice to know they are still working on it. Very nice to see a esporter actually admitting that everyone tries to brake the game and make glitch setups! If someone mention that in other streams like jardier we just get a smile or talk it away. We all know it was full caster/all negative and extreme supersoft suspension setups in 1.8 and that some esporters tries to make it work again in 1.9. I'm happy kunos tries to remove this aspect of the game forcing everyone to actually making real setups that's making logic.
@SimracingPopometer Жыл бұрын
developers and pro players dont share the same goals. developers want to achieve accurate simulation and correlation with irl data, in a wide range of aspects. that doesnt necessarily mean that there is correlation with all possible settings. and esports players tend to try and find those where correlation isnt given anymore and where the car performs better than intended. some things just cant be modeled accurately enough with "just" 400hz of physics. and then you are limited by consumer PCs with how high of a frequency you can run the physics. especially high speeds and fast movements become an issue then where things happen faster than the physics are calculating new values. just a couple more years surely and 1000hz or 2000hz physics will solve it :D

Great video Nils. I think those with the time to explore the settings have the advantage here, its still tough to get that balance you talk about in the rotation in different states. For casual players its a mountain to get over to figure this out per track. ACC should work with some sim racers to drop a package of quality setups into the game that helps people get to a good racing starting point rather than the poor aggressive setups and letting people try and work this all out for themselves
@SimracingPopometer Жыл бұрын
The issue with baseline setups is that they dont quite fit anywhere. There is just too much variety in the game, the tracks, their grip levels etc. I thought about it and I would at least end up with 4 setups to cover all tracks roughly. High downforce, medium, low and then a setup for bumpy tracks with very high kerbs like oulton for example. Yet one wouldnt be able to test it on all tracks and dial in the pressures for each of them, cause its just too much work. And in the end the door that acc leaves open is for people like myself to sell my setup work for example

First of all I totally agree with the thesis that this update is making dedicated drivers with average to above average skill faster. I was curious to know if anyone else has found that there are issues with the view settings that were not present in 1.8? From one day to the next the image will be really 'bouncy'. I think this has to do with the movement and look to horizon settings. After I settled on settings I liked when I first played the game, I had never thought of them again until 1.9 hit.

i get it. problem is that everything really is connected and you have to think a setup as a system. It will not be possible to give a complete overview (yet, of course one can always try to reduce complexity to a digestible degree) and you'll be sorted. It just takes time and diving deeper over time is inevitable. But before I can make a video, take this order starting with biggest magnitude: Aero > alignment > Suspension (interacts heavily with aero) > roll bars > dampers. If you want big changes in fast corners -> aero if you want big changes in slower corners -> alignments and suspension if you want tiny adjustments in balance -> roll bars but its never going to be conclusive, each setting affects every situation of the car, just to a different degree and in different ways

The gap, before and after the patch, is a little large. there will certainly be at least one or more patterns in your driving that maybe have a bigger negative impact on 1.9. 1.9 felt really weird to me at first. I had to relearn to understand the force feedback and how to drive with the new tire behavior. It was frustrating at first but now I am beating my previous lap records again on a bunch of tracks. To me it just took enough laps to get adjusted. For reference my best times are usually about 2.5 seconds off LFM lap records.
@The.JZA. Жыл бұрын
Why do I quite often see so much camber on people's setups? I mean there's a range for a reason, correct? So why go to the absolute maximum? I use (from memory) about 3 degrees of camber on my 992 setup and it works really well with pretty even tyre wear and temp across the carcass and a bit of extra caster for tighter corners where the car is leaning a bit harder. I enjoyed the detailed discussion of the changes.
@SimracingPopometer Жыл бұрын
most of the time at least either front or rear axle is max camber. if you do a very long corner with max camber you will still see the outside heating up more indicating that its in theory still not enough camber. while it might not be optimal for wear, it still provides the fastest lap times. only for balance reasons you might have one axle with less than maximum. typicall on mid engine and rear engine cars you can reduce front camber, but keep rear high to support the extra weight in the back. whereas for front engine cars you likely reduce rear camber in an attempt to make them rotate more steadily
@rankisdumb214 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately eSports set ups have become even more extreme with 1.9 and people are still putting up lighting fast times with exploits. For example. Mid engine cars are significantly faster using high/max rebound settings and mid to low bump settings! Cars like the Audi, New Lambo, New Ferrari are still using Max negative toe, extream roll bar settings like 0 for the lambo and aggressive damping. Ultimately exploits are imo Even worse in 1.9 then 1.8. Now understand I absolutely hate the idea of using a exploit set up. It's something that for me takes away from the enjoyment of the game. In 1.8 I was able to achieve making the Audi Evo 2 a very very stable and quick car with out using Exploits! For example my race pace at Imola was 1:41s and I was finally getting close to breaking 1:41 which isn't bad for a 46yo who has limited time to play. 1:41's at Kyalami, was getting into the high 1:43's at Hungaroring and Barcelona. In 1.9 those same set ups did 1:43 at Imola, 1:46 at Hungaroring, 1:45 at Barcelona as a few examples. I was so frustrated with the loss of time and controllability of the Audi with 1.9 I broke down and started using Exploit set ups! I mainly stuck with using the aggressive damping just to see what the difference was. Instantly my times dropped and the Audi became more drivable. Just using -.2 front and normal rear toe along with aggressive rebound/bump settings I got into the 1:22's at Laguna, got down into the low 1:42's high 1:41's at Imola, 2:02's at Bathurst (which for me is pretty quick) which I always struggled at and where my time is really slow is sector 2. I'm a good .6 seconds slower in sector 2 then the average once Im able to get my apex speeds up s few MPH at the tail end of sector 2 that time will drop into the 2:01's. Ultimately people instantly jumped to the exploits in 1.8 cause it was a quick way to achieve fast lap times vs going back and forth into motec over and over and over making a click here and there to achieve a balanced suspension. How ever in many cars it was possible to get down with in 1 second of the teir 1 race pace times with out using exploits with 1.8. In 1.9 I feel you're left no choice! If you want to achieve those times you must use min/max settings. There's several KZbin hot lap videos with the set ups attached. I've gone thru and downloaded as many as I could find for 1.9 and EVERY SINGLE ONE is an aggressive eSports type set up that created abnormal amounts of controlled rotation and abnormal amounts of rear grip at corner exit. There's only two places to make up time in GT3 classes. That's 1. Averaging a higher average speed from corner entry to exit then your opponent or two getting better grip in slow speed corner exits! Every single eSports driver I watch is on the throttle right before or exactly on the Apex. Many of them are on the throttle with the steering wheel still turned a good bit even though that should technically cause them to step the rear end out or spin. You would never be at full throttle exiting a slow speed corner with large amounts of front tire rotation in real life! Over all some cars have improved greatly and others have been destroyed with this update. Regardless eSports Exploits are still a major part of the game and in all reality are necessary to be in the top split. I always wondered what a eSports driver would do with my 1.8 Audi Evo 2 set ups. Now I'm wondering what exploits they are using to make the Audi fast again! I'll agree the hot patches have helped but there are still some major flaws. Right now the Lamborghini while it may seem crazy can carry the highest speed into corners while trail braking! How do I know this. Well let's say AI is always good for something! Set up a race weekend with practice sessions and qualifying then a 30 min or 2 30 min races. Let it play out then come back and watch the replay. Now of course you'll need to start each session and then go back to the pits or actually drive the sessions. What you'll find is the Lambo winning races by massive margins and carrying higher speeds deeper into corners! As you dive deeper into 1.9 I have a feeling your view will change drastically. Sure you won't need to use max negative toe or other exploits in races but for qualifying their requirements if you want to be at the top of the pack! Do you truly believe Williams eSports and some of the other teams are just that much better than everyone else? Or that the best eSports drivers simply found a way to exploit the physics in order to be the fastest? A true test would be putting everyone in identical cars with identical set ups. Giving everyone the same amount of practice time then running a race!

1) the windows definitely is from 26.0-27.5 or even more. its very hard to see differences in lap time, especially since it always takes like 3 laps for the tire to start working. 2) the bars have not been updated. they will indicate "underpressured" with lower pressures still as the likeliness for pressure loss is higher. once the bars are the same high, pressure loss is less likely. but don't quote me on it 3) my setups on popometer.io are usually made specifically to be very drivable.
