Thanks man. This helps a lot. My last league race at Spa was horrible. After about 8 or 10 laps it felt like I was driving on ice. After this video I ran 12 laps and I feel more comfortable and in control of the car. I’m thinking your coaching lessons will help me tremendously.

Great analysis and very clear. I am trying to unlearn the bad habit of a little throttle tap in corner entry so maybe the porsche is not the best car for me to improve my technique but the 911 at Spa is one of the special events on ACC I'm doing. Really interesting about inducing a bit of understeer with higher steer angle, I am struggling with the front gripping up too much coming off the brakes, and losing the rear end, so very keen to try this technique out.

Hello, Nils. Great video. My favourite track is Spa, and I'm knocking out the laps there to learn the game and my wheel etc. Fairly new to all this. I've discovered that the Porsche seems to suit me, at this track at least. What are the "bad habits" you mentioned with the Porsche that won't carry over to other cars? Thank you. -Nevermind, saw you answered this in another comment, cheers.

The huge difference to my times was thanks to a guy called Suelio Almeida(hope i spelt it right) his tips on KZbin were to do a bunch of laps then watch your replays and take notes, so simple but it was hard to believe just how far i was from the turn in and how early i was breaking, my noted ended up looking like i qas a rally co driver lol😅

I struggle with the idea of late apexing on corners too me it seems to lead to more aggressive turning in and unsettling the car. Case in point being Nils explaination of turn in into Eau Rouge, ie. encouraging a less wide approach and gentlier earlier turn in. My natural tendency would be to turn in too early according to the classic ideal lines.

Excellent instruction. I would love to see a comparison between your own telemetry between the F1 rim and a full size 320 or 330 GT rim. I have the F1, but just don't like it for GT car, although I'm sure it's hurting my response. It's taken me a bit to hit 2:17 with the '18 911. No splitter/aero on the front has made it the most difficult car/track combo in ACC for me.
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 3 жыл бұрын
it's about sensitivity and reaction speed. with the f1 rim you need to do smaller movements to do the same amount of rotation, which means it's more sensitive and precision more difficult. but this also means that you can do required quick movements quicker. in the end I'm sure it's only getting used to either, no actual benefit or disadvantage for either

Hey Nils, thanks for another great upload. I always learn from watching these videos! I have a question for you - one of the main things about your driving which I find so impressive is the consistency, even in this coaching video the laps you did for preparation were all 2:17s with only 3-4 tenths variation at most in lap-time. Do you have any tips for building up to that level of consistency (or is it just a side effect/function of doing enough focused laps)?
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 4 жыл бұрын
this might sound a bit stupid, but the 0.4s in between laps is not something you'll find me do during a competition (in clean air that is). the laps have to be a bit closer together and only really the car becoming slower from the tires getting worse should affect the laptime. Not gonna win anything on top level with half a second of volatility. However: i think there's a different take on it here: i do not struggle driving the cars anymore or squeezing the laptime out. im not surprised by what the car does or so. its just a matter of focus to tap into what i can do and know about the car. this automatically comes when you get comfortable with the limit of the car and can drive it around a track just about on that edge without thinking about it or trying. its when you stop needing to push to get good laptimes that you also stop doing these small mistakes that cost you time.
@qczhao
@qczhao 4 жыл бұрын
@@SimracingPopometer Yes, 0.3 or 0.4 seems a lot for you, I saw from your other races the < 1 tenth laptime consistency you have there in the actual race situations haha. :D Thank you for the insight, it's helpful to know the kind of feeling or target I should be aiming for. I'm finding right now I still feel like I'm really on the limit to extract the laptime (benchmarking against RSR leaderboards - in AC I'm about 1s off the WR at Spa for the Porsche GT3 Cup on a default setup). So I think my ultimate pace is not a million miles away (but can be improved obviously), but I can only be consistent (like having a couple tenths laptime variation) if I run the race maybe 0.3 or 0.4s slower than my "maximum" laptime. I guess it's just about doing more focused practice until what feels like "pushing" right now becomes a new normal set of driving inputs and feedbacks that the car gives. Thanks again man, it's so cool of you to respond to these questions :)

@@SimracingPopometer I've tried all kinds of things, including settings and setups from other people (which I shouldn't do) in an attempt to find out what's fast. The Porsche is hard to drive. I get that. I can get around La Source okay but Eau Rouge is a nightmare. If I do it in 5th, the car is too twitchy and I spin. If I do it in 6th, the car doesn't make the corner. When I do, I'm 40 km'h _slower_ through there than either you or your student. And you know what that means for speed on the Kemmel straight. I'm not even getting into 6th gear. I'm also finding that the edges of the performance envelope in ACC are quite sharp. The car, in any configuration, will break away with little or no warning.

since the porsche is extra sensitive towards any kind of turning, pitch, off throttle, braking - so everything basically. you want to make sure (if you havent already) that your wheel is not too sensitive. your wheel needs to turn the exact same amount as the ingame wheel. you sometimes only need 20° on this machine

What i don't get is why i can barely drop to 2:19 in the Audi, but with every other car i effortlessly run 2:17s... Doesn't matter mid or front engined or even the Porsche.. Much messier laps than those with the R8 Evo (and Evo 2) but faster ones. Tried every setup i could find in addition to my best ones, but still it's just impossible to get under 2:19:5. I know the car can do it, i've seen people in the lobbies doing it, but whenever i look through the replay, the car seems to just disobey the laws of physics. Much later braking spots which when i try them, i not only overshoot the corner, but end up in the wal.. can't even slow down in the grass. Also way WAY faster speeds through the corners to the point where the motion looks almost cartoonish-like. What is going on ?

Now it's almost impossible to drop under 2:20, while at the same time with the McLaren i lap 2:16s... I mean there is certainly something wrong with the R8's BOP now. It's supposed to have most mid corner rotation out of any car in the game, but for some reason, no matter what i try in the setup, it now understeers like mad. Went on to even put the diff at 300Nm and the rear still won't turn.
