PATCHING A MUFFLER HOLE • Exhaust Muffler Repair Kit on '08 Chevy Impala SS 5.3L • Tough Duck Jacket

My wife's Impala has a big hole on the side of one of her mufflers (passenger side).
I suppose to bring the car to my buddy's shop (unlike me, he is a real mechanic). But I had to try this first since I already bought it over a month ago at Crappy Tire, I mean, Canadian Tire.
The hole started small about three months ago. Then it became big up to the point you can't ignore the "booming" sound anymore.
Let's see how long this patch lasts?

2023 here. How long did your patch last? And your only verbal instruction is still PERFECT 😂

Hello Jony... the patch lasted 13 weeks. If there had been no winter (road salt), I believe the patch would have lasted at least twice that long. ☕️

There is a reason why the muffler has Rusted it out .patching it up isn't going to last long it cheaper to put a New one in .

where did u get the wire mesh things from?

Home Depot or Lowes (any hardware stores). I recommend the quarter inch screen mesh.

Yes it worked for several months (during the harsh winter, salt on the road).

I am just curious if the crappy tire kit came with the wire mesh and the metal patch ... Otherwise not too hard to follow .

The kit comes with the wire mesh (not with the metal patch).... it also comes with a long piece of "cloth", 2 or 3 ft long, to wrap around the exhaust pipe.

@@Motiahmed330 The brand's name is, VersaChem . I tried looking for the exact brand just now at crappy tire's website, but I couldn't find it anymore. If you could find a ¼" galvanized mesh (home depot sells them). And buy those putty from Crappy Tire (eg: JB weld brand). You can actually do the same procedure like in this video and I'm sure the result will be the same (or even better/last longer). The main key for this repair is to use a heat gun to cure the putty OR let the putty hardened by itself. Never start the car and use the exhaust to cure/hardened the fresh putty.... Hope that make sense and Goodluck !
