To summarize Joint forces and stability has inverse relationship in pf joint.forces are higher in extension,stability is less and compression is high although many factors are working altogether to reduce some stress and chances of patellar displacement due to difference in line of pull between quad and patella tendon .contact area is higher in flexion less are the joint forces and greater is the stability.anteriorly the patella is stabilized by longitudinal and transverse stabilizers..

Thats great job...may i add some more clarity....joint forces or joint stress ( Stress=F/A) is showing inverse relation at Patellofemoral joint. That's is at KNEE EXTENSION is having least compression or joint stress in this joint and that is goof for the joint as less stress lesser is the likelihood of joint degenerative changes or excessive demand on the joint. At same time FLEXION has very high stress and compression and it increases as flexion increases. But in terms of stability the KNEE FLEXION is more stabilized than EXTENSION and thus there is increased chances of subluxation or lateral displacement at extension. So in nutshell in a rehab setup its better not to go to extremes of flexion such as deep squat etc if there's degenerative changes.This are reasons why SLR and exercises with knee extension( but not to go with terminal extension in non-weight bearing, weight-bearing its perfect) are advised in DEGENERATIVE CONDITIONS. But if our patient is there with issue of loss is stability at the joint its better to make him exercise in flexion range than in extension( in particular avoid knee terminal extension in non weight bearing) More clarity u will get by tomorrows video on Q ANGLE

It gives me immense happiness that its helping you.....thats what i aim by this ...to let biomechanics have a great role in our treatments rather than just traditional ways....all the best mam....your message made my day..

And madam, we see our patients with OA and other degenerative changes adopting a knee flexed position than knee extension espically old age...this may ne one reason why the degenerative changes increases many folds when knee flexion is maintained for long time as always the stress and compression on their joints are maximum...which wont be good in long run... Thank you

@@TonysTutorial the contact area between patella and femoral trochlea increases from 0 to 90 degrees and hence open chain excersices from 90 to 30 degrees are adviced as they reduces the stress on painful joint

Hello sir.. Sir which book should i prefer for biomechanics... I have pamela & cynthia And newmann Are these two books enough? Would you like to add any more to it?
@TonysTutorial4 жыл бұрын
Hai ...good to hear from you agin ...if you are a UG student cynthia c norkin is prefect choice ...you just need it thats all...but that text is not designed for UG students so theres lot stuffs on researches, studies done by many individulas etc...you dont need that for UG STDIES...so go for slective studies focusing whats needed.But if u wish to go beyond text and learn then thats something great ...use books like NEWMAN, CAROL O OTIS etc if so...best wishes

what changes will the condition genu recuvatum produce at patellofemoral joint??
@TonysTutorial4 жыл бұрын
Lets look into what is genu recurvatum , its is hyper extension at knee joint, since its a patholigical sitation than anatomical it will lead on to variuous changes in the knee joint.Here there will be increased tensile stress on posterior knee joint capsule and ligamentous structre as in this postion posterior structres are streched out.Further theres is some instability with the knee joint yhat can lead to increase ACL injuries.
@TonysTutorial4 жыл бұрын
And i believe that it can also lead to increased compression forces in the anterior joint compartment and posterior there is increased
