This is one of the best videos of this kind I've seen. Besides the sheer destructive force of fire, the obstacles and frustrations that confront the firefighters are evident and plainly visible. Housing too close with multiple exposures, overhead wires which may or may not have been deactivated, automobiles obstructing the scene and impeding the progress of equipment. The quality of this video us outstanding and educational. Good job. God bless our Firefighters and our Police.

I lived in paterson . move away and went back to visit family a year ago .my family drove me around to the places i once called home . i could not believe the despair the filth , the people so loud rude . a once thriving proud town has turned into a drug ridden chaotic place . how can people live like that .

Gah, I can never imagine myself living in a row-home or tightly clumped development of houses ... for this exact reason. :/

Excellent video. Looks like you understand the toughest work in the fire service and get it on video. Thanks!

Exposure problems is the understatement here. I can just hear property owners years ago saying, hey, I have 5 lots that are 40 feet wide. Let's build 5 big houses. Great video!

Tornadochaser66, Yours is the third video of this fire I have watched tonight and by far the best. You arrived during the early stages of this fire which shows Paterson's bravest going about their business in an extremely professional manner. This was a serious fire with multiple exposure problems but PFD got the job done. I'm guessing there were mutual aid departments working at this fire during it's later stages but PFD sure worked their butts off early on to save as much life and property as they possibly could. Would love to see the complete unedited version. Thanks for being there and taking the time to post it for all the world to see.

It amazes me that you firefighters do this work without cursing. I tend to burst out with an expletive whenever I watch these videos and see unexpected flame bursting out.

Another great video Matt. This reminds me of when I was a kid, most of our main street burned down from an arson fire. It made a big impression on me and thats why I spent 40 years in the Fire Service. Nice work Paterson Brothers.

As an ex-firefighter, its hard to get enough real training. But thanks to youtube, it is a means to really improve their skills. It should be a part of daily training to view these fires and critique them as to what they think was done right, or what might have been a better approach.
@captainmorgan11077 жыл бұрын
Great video! They sure had enough obstructions to deal with and they did a great job of saving the rest of the houses.

Here in Scotland we build our homes from brick and concrete blocks, neighbors house burns down, barely a mark on the other houses.

I often wonder whether American architects have a competition to see who can build the best bonfire. Much of the material used is a combination of sawdust and glue. It definitely makes good firelighters.

Quite honestly that's a ridiculous amount of power lines. Why have so many right above entrances? If something goes wrong, you're in trouble!

Wow! Very bad! Damn hard to fight when structures are so close together. This Fire Department and their personal did one hell of a bang up job keeping this fire at bay as much as possible. Well done gentlemen! Well done indeed.

These firefighters are true heroes. I was born in NJ and lived in Westfield, North Arlington, and Rutherford as a child. These tightly-packed houses are generally the rule rather than the exception. The fact that more buildings didn't catch fire and burn to the ground shows the excellent work done by these brave men.

you would think it would be against fire code to build that close. there has to be fault on the city to for allowing them to be built like that someone gave out permits and did inspections but then more houses are more taxes
@kingofmetal19616 жыл бұрын
Those firefighters did just one hell of a job knocking down that fire and attacking it from all different angles because of the closeness of all the houses. OUTSTANDING, just OUTSTANDING JOB!

@lindacarruthers34234 жыл бұрын
All that close proximity housing and cars in the way is a fact of city life . People must live somewhere and there’s only so much space . It’s like living in Japan on the ring of fire with earthquake and tsunami risk , or in California where everyone talks about ‘The big one’ . Or in any of the places with tornadoes or with hurricanes. Life includes risk I suppose . If you live in a rural area The ambulance finally arrives and you’re dead already . But in the city hospitals are close ,and so are fire stations . You make your choices , no choice is without risk .
@jamesaddie48954 жыл бұрын
Just imagine a water main break at that time. With our infrastructure that could of happened then what? Lose the whole block.

with row houses when one burns several others will as well. and being so close to one another it's almost hard NOT to have several or more go at once.. so sad they have been built so close but like in PA as well get more people to live there. but not safe for a fire at all. not sure if these were lived in or being remodeled or not. but so sad to see. :(

Why are tow trucks not responding with the FD? I mean seriously, as many times as I've witnessed stuff in these videos. Never do wreckers show up with the Department, even if to move cars a block or 2 away from the fire zone. Most of the time, they aren't appearing to be damaged, but heat melts the plastics, ruins the paint, and most importantly, can ignite an additional fire with explosive issues. When the FD responds, so should a handful of wreckers to remove parked vehicles. The proper equipment can remove a vehicle in under 30 seconds. Getting them out of the way.

Very good footage of this fire and very clear radio traffic. Those firefighters did a great job saving the majority of the block which could have burned down as a whole because the houses are that close together. On the satellite view on Google maps which shows 2018 for the satellite photographs the houses which have been on fire seem to have new roofs on them, so even those houses were not completely destroyed, there were several houses under renovation already at the moment of the fire, like the big house on the corner, street view shows this house with rotten siding on the 2014 images.

All these wooden buildings need to be ripped down ASAP. they're all death traps. Fire just rips right through them especially if it's windy, they're also built far too close to each other. personally I wouldn't thank you for one of those houses even if they were FREE. 😣😯😑
