Darth has picked up on it and it seems to be common knowledge, but I still cant say it enough: D4 is made by people who don't play this type of game. They checked all the feature boxes, but they have no idea how they work or integrate into a full system. The steering wheel is on the roof, the engine is in the cabin, and trunk opens downward. Then they turn around and sell you new paint and to fix one of those problems. "18 new paint colors and finish! And now the steering wheel is in the cabin!".

From all interviews So far Legendary Drops interview was far the best in my opinion. Yes, questions about facts, mechanics are great but mostly covered by the big GGG stream. What makes it so good toi me is that he asked about the decisions and philosophy behind this game. It makes me understanding the game better, why mechanics are as they are. It also gives me the feeling that they care seriously about their game. That it will be good for years and not only a tech demo. I was wondering what they could add to the game that it feels different from PoE 1 but doesn`t lose its spirit, its unique feeling in the arpg genre. Honestly D4 isn’t as bad as everyone says, as long as you’re a casual player. If you just want to slay some demons and be done with it, or go through the campaign once and pick up another game again, it’s perfectly enjoyable. However, everything after that is… mediocre or non-existent, and that’s a real disappointment and deserves negative reviews. So if you want something to play a game between now and December 6 (1 week from now), D4 is fine. After 1 week you won’t have experienced the things people are complaining about.

People were already referring to the Diablo formula or whatever you want to call it, because ARPG means a lot of things. Like Elden Ring is also an ARPG. Also it's not like GGG did the same with PoE1. We currently have a "2-months increased currency"- league to bring players back instead of a double XP weekend. The current Endgame (especially after they dropped T17) is also kinda shit. We don't have billions of DPS, but still enough to insta phase every boss. The only difference is the investment (and how hard the build kills your textures, too). Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure and hopeful they'll deliver with PoE2, but until they deliver with the public release this banter is just fan service.

Rod Fergusson comment is also ignorant of video game history. Rogue-like is now interpreted as the 2010s indie wave of roguelikes, but there are older ones. Diablo 1 is based on Angband which is an old school rogue-like. Randomly generated dungeons, randomly generated items, permadeath, D&D styled class system, charges on staves, light radius, damage to demons, damage to undead, going down 100 levels to beat a boss... The only thing D1 added is unique items, prefixes and suffixes, real time gameplay instead of turn based, and the focus on dispatching monsters. Diablo-like in the D2R sense is just real time roguelike x)

Legendary Drops's warframe experience changed him a lot, he gained a lot of appreciation for the minds behind the game. And I think it was awesome that GGG decided to approach him for a interview. I guess since his not exactly a PoE player, his audience doesn't expect technical stuff to be asked. Such a great interview!!

Part of it is Warframe for sure; however, I've always operated on trying to understand how people do something better, so I can get better. I apply that same philosophy to industry and game critiques as well. When "Why doesn't this work" or "Why don't I like this" is harder to answer, I ask "Why does this work" or "Why do I like this". So I just reverse engineer problems.

Actually RE: PoE campaign, I used to hate running it every league so much, but as you said here it becomes part of the league. The issue is, I don't mind rerunning it once a league on my main, but then having to run it again on subsequent alts is when it becomes incredibly taxing.

Man d4 is so cooked and done. Almost every d4 Streamer announced they Plan to do mainly Poe 2 content. I Wish i could See the Panic faces of Blizzard Chef Office after Nearly every KZbinr and Streamer Just Turned their Back to d4. I dont think d4 will ever Recover from poe2 Release. D4 will remain and continue on, poe2 isn't really a big threat, it doesn't have the reach that the diablo name has. If anything, they'll look at poe2 and likely just take some concepts from it and incorporate it into a season or something. The streamers will return like they always do as they're vultures that rely on the newest fad to keep views going.

POE has had "legit" dupes. Not in sense of items, but we did have the gilded fossil item copying which printed mirror shards if you found the right gilded item, beast dupes with extra clients, and a few other legitimate gameplay that crossed into exploit and possibly dupe territory.

There was a guild stash dupe exploit the first time they added it, dupe exploits happen with new mechanics, fixing them before they crash the economy is the key aspect here.

Ive done the POE1 campaign 3 million 222 thousand 2 hundred and 44 times, and I hate it, but id be so upset if it wasn't there. Feels so good to get a sub 5 hour campaign and get into maps asap. Its a necessary evil.

Exactly. It's just doesn't make any sense to call helltide in D4 as an endgame since you can start it as level 1. And the first mob you kill takes you to level 2 immediately.

Its necessery evil but they can make it shorter not longer, it will be nice to actualy start with skill you will play, not do few skills able to do campain fast at budget than change build/ascendency at maps to not waist time, or they can give same gems to all classes at start from vendors, so you dont need make second character just to buy something like magma orb at begin.

The answer at about 18:40 is so good to hear. As an avid souls and arpg player I always hate that some games rely entirely on gear level to get you through the game. I also think that allowing for more skill expression reduces frustration with games. in POE1 and diablo games, if you don't delete an enemy, they delete you. That is dictated by gear strength. Where as skill games when you lose you know WHY you lost and can practice over coming it.

@DarthMicroTransaction You know what gsme does the reset experience on a cool way? Mabinogi (Fantasy Life). The Rebirth System is an interesting thing to start the character over and still have similar stats. Play through the beginning again.

at 10:45 Jonathan talks about how drop rates can carry over for the next x amount of maps is genius because we can target multiple things in a rotation to farm and we can still drop the target items in the next x amount of maps. I know we can't spam or target maps, but we can strategically pick from the atlas which way I we wanna path. We will essentially do the maps in a linear direction to unlock the fog of war and have more openings in the map and get to strategically choose how we want to sub-delve vertically or horizontally. So to break it down the strat is to pick a direction and keep going into that direction linearly without getting distracted with what you find along the way. After you are done lets say 10-20 maps, you go back and analyze what you have discovered and based on the discoveries you plan your exploration that will branch from your linear line you have created. This is Depth-first search in data structure and algorithms. Then when you finish depth searching, you start applying a new algorithm with your pick node which is called Breadth-first search on the area that looks juicy to you or has your desired mechanics or bonuses. So keep in mind if you have nothing attractive to run, keep running DFS -> depth-first search, once you find a desired area to explore, run BFS -> breadth-first search. GGEZ

That double-experience weekend thing is so good. I just think of it as I'll play a game when I want to for the reason that it is fun... I loathe when a game has dailies or promotional periods that change the progress per unit time arbitrarily. Straight up, I don't want to log in to perform dailies. If I want to play, I'm playing, and I want it to be the same progress made on average if I put in 10 hours doing 1 hour a day or if I play 10 hours all on the same day.

Being able to experience Hardcore-like elements and the pressure that can invoke, without having to completely risk everything is really cool. You can still feel gutsy enough to attempt it, and still feel the pressure of potentially fucking it up and it be fairly punishing.
