I saw this movie about 3 days ago... and it is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Not just scenery wise, I mean the film itself, as a whole, is breathtaking.

Pellicola davvero stupenda basata su un'antica leggenda lettone, sceneggiatura coinvolgente con combattimenti realistici e ben realizzati e con alcuni dialoghi significativi e filosofici, quindi davvero stupenda e davvero stupenda per me come valutazione è 8,5.

This was remade a few years ago as a Karl Urban vehicle (he plays the role taken in the original as kid in the trailer), relocated to North America, with Urban as a foundling from a Viking shipwreck, protecting the tribe that adopted him from incredibly ahistoric Viking raiders, led by Clancy 'the Kurgan' Brown. A very different film, and good in a very different way.

I love Karl Urban, but that movie was pure garbage. It portrayed "vikings" as Tolkiens Orcs while showing native Americans as hippies. For all matters and purposes, it was very low budget, low effort LOTR and shouldnt be compared to this.

Ofelas was and is a great film, though the remake had a couple of enjoyable moments it isn't really worth calling a remake. I agree it's a shame when you can't find good films being printed anymore, one of those cases where you shouldn't be ashamed to check in with the Swedish Pirates.

I don't mind it being based on a true story, but I doubt such an isolated group would be modern and well equipped enough to sport crossbows at that time.

because Chuds were one of the finno-ugric tribes (such as Finns and Aesti), compared to Saami they were far more advanced and not isolated.

Erik yes, they could have crossbows, they traded with Russians, Bulgars, Khazars, but that was not early than in XII century, since this century early finns, karelians, aesti and oeselians(modern day Estonians) were attacking and pillaging saami settlements and scandinavian towns.

IPiminov I think the bottom line is still that Nils Gaup cares very little about historical accuracy, as evident in The Last King (Birkebeinerene), where soldiers wears platemail a couple of hundred years early. And where did they get the ninja costumes? Did they trade with Japan as well?
