Thanks for the video Jason, I bought the CRB in 2019 but shifted to 5E. Had I known this game was amazing as it is, I would have never gone to 5E. So I am currently watching your knights of the everflame campaign and I love how it ties Kassen into the PF1e adventure module crypt of the everflame. I genuinely loved that the mayor had changed due to all the problems 10 years ago and all the little drama. I'm loving the videos. And when will we see a knights of the everflame PDF? Would love to let my players experience everything. Cheers

I would definitely like a detailed explanation on feat gain, particularly ancestry feats and what happens if you don't meet the prereqs for them (ex: there's only one lvl 5 goblin ancestry feat and as it stands, I don't think this character qualifies for it).

Checking this out when coming from a 5e perspective, I love the sheer number of choices that are laid out, and done so in a way that is beneficial for understanding and lacking in pitfall choices. Being able to actually take feats, a lot of them, without sacrificing ability scores adds a lot of fun customization. The idea of adding character level to rolls as long as you're at least trained also helps stave off those moments where the dice just completely shut down the narrative due to a lower roll.

The great thing about the proficiency system is that there's really no 'wasted choice'. If you have a 10 Str and become trained in Athletics, you're just as good at someone with 16 Str without training. Soon, you'll be much better. It's one of my favourite aspects of 2e; training really makes a difference.

Very helpful! More tutorials would be fantastic and one thing, in particular, that'd be great is a "What to do with your 'extra' action?" for the 3 action economy. A lot of new players seem to think "Well, I'll attack again, I guess..." but with the penalty that might not be the best thing for them to do. There's a lot of skill based actions: Feint, Grapple, Shove, Create a Diversion, Hide, Intimidate, Trip, Disarm, Demoralise, Recall Knowledge, or even the touched-upon Goblin Song! I'm sure there's a lot more and also you'll have some great tales where a player being more inventive than stride, strike, strike to spark new players imagination! 🙂
@KalonOrdona2 Жыл бұрын
--you would probably Move-- I see you did list Stride. I figure indeed that would be used the most. :)
@mikecantwell77 Жыл бұрын
@@KalonOrdona2 Stride could well be the best use for that last action, to disengage and force the enemy to move, a lot of the time. It's going to depend on the fight but I think there's going to be a lot of different things you could do that'd have greater effect. As an example, say your party is up against an ogre and, for their level, it's a challenging fight for them. Sure, they can move in, hit, move back but the Will DC is 4 lower than it's AC and it's Reflex 7 points lower. That means that you could have a better chance to trip on you 3rd action as you did to hit it on your 2nd. Or you might decide to trip first "attack". With it being a much easier target number, maybe a crit is reasonable achievable to doing some damage with the fall. It's AC is 2 less (flat-footed) and that's for not only upcoming strike but also for any party members who can weigh in before the ogre goes again... and you may regain the attack you "lost" to using a trip with an attack of opportunity at your full bonus. So you're weighing up Stride, full bonus Strike, Trip (-5 due to MAP) then AOO full bonus Strike vs Stride, Trip (chance of 1d6 fall dam), effective -3 pen Strike, full bonus AOO). It's also a good target for demoralise. Demoralise doesn't count as an attack so, as a 3rd action, likely easier to succeed than an attack. That's a -1 to it's next round of checks (attacks and saves) and it's DCs. Maybe you have one frontline combatant is good at Intimidate and the other in Athletics so you combo it, intimidator up first making that crit fall even more likely for the one with good athletics. It's on the ground with a total -3 to it's swings, due to frightened/prone (-4 if you were lucky enough to crit demoralise), reduced saves, loosing an action to having to stand and potentially provoking, flat-footed for the rogue and overall a very unhappy ogre... Now, granted, I picked a monster with a weak will and reflex so move, hit, move may be your norm but I think a lot of new players won't know the possibilities from using skill based actions to effectively de-buff the monster rather than taking another swing or just stepping away. 🙂

I made my first character in 2e yesterday. Hes a Kobold draconic sorcerer who is a servant to a copper dragon that likes to hoard various items, texts, famous adventure's remains and things that people use or memories of adventures past. The Dragon has bestowed his gift on Mord's (His name is Mordant) bloodline to journey in seek of adventure to add to the dragons hoard. Whether that is his dead body, or treasures that he collects on his way. I have considered using as the bloodline black dragon, but I think copper should fit better with a parties alignments.

I've played a few modules between Starfinder and Pathfinder, as well as the Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous PC games, and in my experience there very much are right and wrong answers when building characters. I'm also quite good at finding the wrong answers, mostly, it seems, because I build characters that specialize in non-combat things, and non-combat things don't really help.
@JasonBulmahn Жыл бұрын
One of the great things about P2 is that we put all of your choices in specific "buckets" which helps to ensure you have an effective character. You dont have to choose between being good at skills or good at combat! You get to be good at both by picking Class feats and Skill feats!
@FightingDuskstalker Жыл бұрын
@@JasonBulmahn That's kinda what gets me about the design. I feel like I should enjoy the character building more, except it feels so at odds with the way the published adventures play to me. The adventure paths I've experienced featured combat so demanding that it sent me doomscrolling through build guides that would tell me things like "Paladins should always use reach weapons, not sword and board." While any time it looked like we'd have to do research or investigation, there was an NPC to give us the answer for free and point us to the next thing to kill.

@@dark_dar Guess im trying to understand your comment in regards to mine. I have nothing against anyone who plays these games because they like the over in depth character creation that goes with these games. Im both forever dm and player in a few groups. Its the fact that i like the simplfied or "dumbed down" version that 5th edition gives. For as I stated I would much rather be playing the game then worrying if my character can sneak through mud. Or has an ability that allows me to jump a little higher. Depending on the situation its an athletic or acrobatics check. Easy,simple and im playing. Thats one reason why im at a crossroad with my one group that i play in. So much time rules lawyering or pointless rp that a more in depth character driven game or different set of rules to nit pick through. Does not sound fun to me.

@alex burns Pathfinder 2e is more complex to get into than DnD5, that is true. The video here last 1 hour because Jason is explaining every single point, which does not need to happen with every player nor every time you create a character. I suggest you have a play with Pathbuilder or Wanderer's Guide, both are free websites with all the character options, available for free. Once you've created a couple of characters yourself you'll be able to explain it to your players much more easily. Then, have a session 0. Give each player a character sheet to fill, explain the process to every one at the same time, step by step. Have the Core rulebook in the middle for easy reference. Tell them to create their character on Pathbuilder at the same time so they don't miss a step. I found that doing it as a group encourage players collaborating and helping each other.
@salex4108 Жыл бұрын
@@MathAenya I'm not against any other system or groups that play them at all. I have so much money invested into my 5th edition games and in spite of all the current dnd news, I rather enjoy the 5th edition system.
