I love CRPGs, been playing them since I was a kid, and we really have been eating good since the CRPG renaissance spearheaded by Pillars of Eternity and Divinity: OS. However, there are only 3 CRPGs that I enjoyed so much that I replayed more than twice: Baldurs Gate 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Pathfinder: WotR. These games confortably occupy my top tier, and considering how many I've played, this is no small feat. Owlcat deserves all the praise they have received and more.

I have not played too far into this game, but already I have a good impression of it. I prefer turn-based just as a whole. I love how the combat has a pure turn-based mode. It is like the devs knew there was a RT w/ pause vs Turn-based war and actually found a way to satisfy both sides.

Absolutely agree about the isometric style. I put off isometric games for years because I assumed I'd hate them. Boy, was I wrong. I played DOS2 after I kept hearing great things about it and was hooked. I'm so glad I finally gave them a chance, same with turn-based combat. It never hurts to step outside our comfort zones to try new games. At worst, we realize we're not interested, but at best, we can discover a whole new style or genre of games to enjoy.

Increadible game , story 10/10,. not even BG3 has this good story as Pathfinder 2, depth of classes, combinations and spells no other game does it as deep as Pathfinder. My go to are Turn Based games, but even without that kind of gameplay, this is one of the best CRPGs ive played in my life.

Far better companions too, imo. Throughout a lot of BG3, I had the thought "I don't think I'd be friends with any of these people if we weren't linked by these parasites". WotR had far more companions that I think I'd be friends with. Even two of the "Evil" ones (Daeran and Regill).

Also Trying (and Successfully) beating all Optional Bosses (At least I hope I found them all). Especially Remember Cheesing the Fuck out of the Playful Darkness and its Cousins with Shadow Demon Summoning Belt & Free Call Lightning Casts xD First playthrough took over 455 Hours, but Man... Story writing and pacing is great, possibly better and definitely more epic than bg3. Specific dialogue writing, not really. It has a lot of the classic cRPG dialogue tropes, like a full on exposition line of questions the moment you recruit a companion, and picking dialogue choices in a random order does not affect reactivity, which breaks immersion. But it's still great for a cRPG.

You won't see this game mentioned much in game awards hehe Maybe one day Electronic Arts buys them and kills them? Couldnt love this game any more and I cant wait for what they do next, I still have yet to play Rogue Trader since Warhammer universe is not something I dabble in but when they will make another Pathfinder I will be there. And we gotta give them mad props for the amount of support and content they put into WotR, it was already ginormous when it came out but now it is probably the most expansive rpg I have played, even beyond the likes of Persona 5, Witcher 3 or Baldurs Gate 3, there is easily hundreds of hours on offer here and the replay value is immense, like I said, couldnt love this game more and I cant recomend it enough. Completely agreed on Larian games, I played most of their games, even the older ones like Divine Divinity, Dragon Commander and such and obviously Original Sin 2 and BG3 are absolutely stellar, they keep moving the goalpost for all other studios when it comes to rpgs, but with both the Original Sin series and their BG3, there is simply something about the structure and how they approach their story, quest and world design that really makes me uncomfortable when playing it, I think it is the amount of content you are expected to miss out on and its simply very hard to get the most out of the game, or for lack of better term, navigating it on a structural level. When I finished WotR for the first time, I already had a rough idea of where the points of difference for other routes and runs will be, I didnt know what to expect but I knew where to look to not miss out on anything, WotR and Kingmaker, despite being incredibly huge and long, are a lot more palatable and easily "consumed" the way I prefer.

So im relatively new to CRPGs. Ive played the original baldurs gate games and thats it. Im of limited time nowadays. Where do I start with this? Kingmaker or Wrath of the righteous? Or do I give the pillars of eternity games a go?

Playing a chaotic allignment is impossible for me. Evola would roll over in his grave if I were to play anything but a heroic martyr that directs the wrath of the noumenal order in this holiest of fictional crusades! Good and evil are irrelevant. However, order must subdue the forces of chaos! Me and Regil are gonna clean up this mess and ascend to godhood all proper like.

As far as I'm aware, the last update applied (unless there's a new one you're mentioning here) literally made it so I couldn't even get out of the caverns into Grey Garrison without crashing the game. Ever. At all. I've restarted the game with new characters SEVERAL times trying to make one get past that point. It even crashes if I try to get Radiance. I'll say it again: I cannot even get to Kannabres, to START the damned game properly. Until they FIX that... so that it can't crash up to the point I can CONCLUDE the damned game (at least for the main quests and the mythic quests - I am NOT dumb enough to ask for bug free here. It's too big, and convolutedly flagged a game for that) it's pointedly NOT the best time to play it. Nor are the actually DONE with it. : /

I have never heard of this bug. Are you using mods? I would post a query on the discord server.

Wrath of the righteous is a masterpiece. I didn’t like rogue trader at all in comparison though
