Patient Story - Autoimmune Pancreatitis

Patient William Keegan and Dr. Michel Kahaleh discuss Mr. Keegan's case. Mr. Keegan had a rare condition known as autoimmune pancreatitis where his immune system began attacking his own pancreas. This led to a serious infection.
The treatment was methodical and successful. Mr. Keegan spent three months on a feeding tube while Dr. Kahaleh medically "shut down" his pancreas and used a series of minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to halt the infection and restore Mr. Keegan's pancreas. The procedures spared Mr. Keegan from undergoing an open surgery with greater risk and recovery time.
