It's the same for the best performing athletes. There was a documentary on what sets the best athletes apart from the rest and one attribute was that the top performers blinked way less often when performing which meant that they could gather ever so slightly more information compared to those who blinked more. The sport in that documentary was downhill skiing which is very intense and requires great focus for a short duration of time. Another place this phenomenon has shown itself is in Formula 1, eye cams showed that the top drivers blinked unusally few times during a lap.

While I’m no high speed like DJ, the school houses I went through for CQB DID point out that we should work on NOT blinking when we’re taking shots. It DOES help you track dots and irons better if you don’t have that involuntary blink with every round going off near you. Sorry, but it just seems like a miss on this one for you if you can’t see the benefits of that kind of familiarity and control of autonomic response.

I don't exactly know the full context of the conversation, as GBRS isn't on my list of things to watch, but I have definitely had similar conversations with others about this where I used to work. I will say, the mouth breathing thing is new to me. lol Either way, yes, blinking is reflexive, but YOU CAN and I have personally seen the benefits of training that out of your reflexes. All it takes is something as simple as pure front sight tracking practice, or dot tracking practice through recoil. After a few hundred rounds, you'll notice you've stopped blinking with EVERY shot. It also just happens through "inoculation" really... If you shoot and endure blast regularly, while maintaining maximum focus on targets, it all becomes background. Heck, many probably don't even realize they have gone beyond it. Anyway, this is starting to feel like a "bash" the other guys conversation, I would rather see a well published video on why you might want to do things differently than "X" dude says. For example, "Why Dump Pouches Are Useful (SSE)." That would actually be helpful to people and spread knowledge to the rest of the community. Rather than it being some sort of **** measuring contest, which I feel like it's starting to be more of, rather than the OG Trench vid reminders on patrol and such... I always appreciated those after being retired and in the civilian world for 8 years. We don't exactly talk or think much about "patrolling" basics these days. ha ha! I enjoyed the refreshers and they're why I originally subscribed. All too often we get to a certain level where we start to forget the basics, and then we start to lose the ability to make decisions without them being incredibly myopic. Trench was a great way to remind myself of that.
