I would say Mother 3 has one of the better soundtracks out there. Disco Elysium is a recent title with a soundtrack that is both sparse, not the focus, but also so emotional and compliments the game perfectly and God the melancholy of the hotel theme, the song that plays from Sad FM, the club banger that plays during the scene the game is named after, it punches just so hard, easy recommendation (both in terms of music and game, it has no combat and is mostly about solving a mystery and talking to people). Shovel Knight has an S-tier soundtrack and my favorite modern chiptune soundtrack. Celeste music I just *listen* to a lot of the time, hard to describe but it has a wide range of emotion while remaining upbeat and exploratory, the music in that game often evolves as the level goes on so you have these themes that build on themselves, easy recommendation. Obligatory mention of Hollow Knight, I mean just listen to City of Tears like come on.

AVAA! Didn't know you were into videogame soundtracks :) I'll have to listen to the Necrosphere OST and Patricia Taxxon. I'm commenting to recommend an obscure video game soundtrack from 2012 that I'm near certain you haven't heard of. Endless Space 1, (plus expansion DLC called disharmony) OST: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXq4lnhvnKt6kMU The full OST is 90 minutes long, but I recommend listening to Flawless Theory, Gravity Well, Blue Argon to get a taste. Its similar to some of the orchestral pieces from Tron legacy but is less frenetic and more meditative (mostly). As the game title suggests, the game is about exploring and colonizing space far after a precursor civilization called the Endless basically ascended into digital life called the Dust, which is basically their Dune Spice Magic Sand and is the gold currency in game. Left behind to explore, colonize, terraform planets (huge part of gameplay), and build your empire in the remenants of the Endless, settling among their wrecked Endless Wonders like the A-Entropic Field, Rings of Urula, and Solar Farm etc. Also, the Endless Home world, now barren and dead, Auriga, is a planetary wonder that you fight over for its vast endless research yards which you can repair with endgame tech. Like the lore and setting, the soundtrack alternates between bleak loneliness and inspiring hope, sometimes in the same song, with discordant tones shifting into harmony and tracks changing from slow and relaxing, to fast and energetic, to lonely and sad looking back to the glorious past of the Endless. I would say this soundtrack could be described if Daft Punk from Tron Legacy made the Tron Legacy version of Touch by Daft Punk, but its a 90 minute album. This isn't a request for you to review the ES1 OST, this is a heartfelt recommendation of one of my favorite works of music, and my favorite videogame soundtrack. Hope you enjoy. The songs Battlescene I and II make my hairs stand up still. PS. Have you listened to the New Albion Radio Hour by Paul Shapera? Not for everyone but its an interesting story, like if the Gorillaz Fire Coming Out was an album with an unreliable narrator. Good luck with the baby, God Bless.

if you'd be interested in making more videos in this vein then i'd highly recommend both of the C418 minecraft soundtrack albums! both could've been released completely independent of minecraft and still be considered exceptional ambient records, but they also perfectly encapsulate the experience of playing and even growing up with minecraft too. additionally, i'd also recommend the OFF soundtrack, which is characterised by a very tangible aphex twin-esque strangeness to it that transports me to the game's world every time i revisit it. To me the greatest videogame soundtracks are Bastion and Transistor, both composed by Darren Korb. I honestly think playing those games is what initiated my transition from being mostly a gamer to mostly a music nerd (still a huge fan of both mediums!)

(as an aside, to use this as an excuse to recommend intresting games with some excellent soundtracks, Celeste masterfully does the "a lot with a little" concept you were referencing, death stranding has the best implementation of needle drops I've seen anywhere, all of Suda 51s discog has a plethora of interesting tracks and styles, and while not consistent on a track by track basis, the souls/general fromsoft discography has some of the best and most atmosperic executions of the orchestral ost style that can otherwise feels quite generic, hollow knight is mostly strings and piano and its all the better for it, disco elysium creates such an intricate vibe, and the nier soundtracks are so dynamic and creative in their execution.)
