Patrick and Robin Scenes 11-10-08

Patrick and Anna get an update on Robin's condition. Patrick initially finds it difficult to set aside his doctor side, but Anna encourages him to believe in Robin. Anna realizes that Robin is giving up so she orders Patrick to bring Emma into the room and tells Robin she has too much to live for and she needs to fight. The new parents share a nice moment with their brand new baby girl.

It's these kind of storylines with 3 of my favorites that I love to watch. They have such meaning and compassion, hits you right in the heart. And the chemistry that they share is tops. Something that can never be forced.

The writers of today on soap operas are not like the writers of the past---the way they tell stories or even develop characters so you believe them or want to care about them---they rushed Patrick and Sabrina as a couple and then expected viewers to believe Patrick had a choice to make and the actress that played Sabrina had no respect for the fans.

The scene of Patrick at the altar when Lucy asks if he takes Sabrina and he pauses...that whole scene was woefully lackluster. I like to envision they cut to him having a montage of flashbacks of him and Robin in that moment. Or just anything else...there was NO DEBATE. Scrubs for life!

Finola Hughes is a Brit like my mum and when I was living far away from home, watching her was like being closer to mum. She’s still my honorary soap mum decades later, as crazy as that sounds, but I can watch her in ANYTHING and her moments as a mum to Robin strike a chord. I haven’t watched GH since Robin left (I tune back in just for those rare occasions she makes an appearance because while it’s the Sonny & Carly show I have NO interest in it) but I will watch on endless loop these GH moments that AREN’T the Sonny & Carly and “mobsters are the real good guys” bullshit - the GH I remember (when doctors and cops were the ACTUAL good guys, not sex trafficking mafiosos (hey, for those who don’t remember or never knew: Sonny Corinthos drugged teenager Karen to strip at his strip club and then raped her (drugs aren’t consent)”. I won’t forget that Sonny Corinthos was and is a BAD GUY.

GH writers ruined many histories... LnL, LnL2, Frisco and Felicia, Robert and Holly (with that stupid Ethan retcon)... Pretty much any history the viewers cared about. Almost like they were trying to ruin the entire show so they could take it off the air without people complaining too much.

I never understood why the writers for Robin and Patrick, always gave him so many obstacles.. Spent two years with Lisa Niles terrorizing them, all because Patrick had a one night stand with someone that was a college fling.. Then she’s presumed dead Robin and we have to do two more years bringing her back to the family, only for her to leave three months later, when she’s coerced by the Cassadine. I get that Kimberly had other things she was doing, but really they couldn’t come up with better story lines... I always thought it was because Kimberly and Jason a.k.a. Robert and Patrick bring the story to life. there’s such a realness between them, a chemistry that you can’t fake...

No disrespect to Ron the head writer that came on in 2012, but there’s just something off with the writers. They really don’t understand backstory. When you have a successful franchise like General Hospital, you need to understand the backstory. Because it really makes the stories that you’re trying to drive, have a pulse...

@@rosanneperkins9516ALL disrespect to Ron - he and the writers after him want this show to be daytime Sopranos. If it isn’t diminutive Don Sonny (overrated Maurice Bernard), moll Carly (in her fourth actress and Laura Wright will never let go of the role because she’s that desperate), or hitman Jason “Morgan” (or the various clones/twins of him to keep the mob storyline alive), they weren’t and still aren’t interested. Ron et al want crime bosses and pimps (let us NOT forget that Sonny drugged Karen into stripping and raped her - drugs aren’t consent) to be the “heroes” of this show instead of actual heroes, first responders, medical personnel and well, any characters that AREN’T ORGANIZED CRIME.
