Oh my gosh, no one had a chance against Patrick. That was such a beautifully done routine, I actually cried when he was finished. He's amazing. I believe, if he continues to do this well in competition, he'll get gold, or at least a medal in Sochi 2014.

One of the greatest male skaters ever... He has everything. I'm just amazed by his performance. So brilliant. It's so good to see young skaters with this technical and artistic level... Once you have known past generations, people tend to say, no one is going to skate like them, blablabla... And then comes this new generation, which makes me drop my jaw... I'm such a fan. Congratulations. And thanks for the post.

Gripping stuff It's programs like these that will bring back fans that figure skating has lost over the years. I'm South African and we certainly don't have any where the quality of skater that Chan is(and probably never will) it is still great to see what's possible

As Ryan Bradley said of himself, "one year too late!" This would be the OGM if this was one year ago. Simply brilliant and flawless! The 3T-half loop-3S was a combo according to the new rule change, not an error, nor a sequence. It gets full score for (3T+1L+3S)81.1 as it was done in the later half of the progam, huge scores! Joannie could have got a couple of more scores if the rue had been in place during the olympic year. she got (3T+3S)*0.8*1.1 I believe.

@sumimimi0 you are correct it was not a mistake, but the connecting move was a half loop, not a 3-turn. Wiki: A related jump in figure skating is the half loop. In spite of its name, it is a full rotation jump. It differs from a regular loop jump in that it is landed on the opposite foot, on a backward inside edge. Half loops are only done as single jumps, and are primarily used as connecting elements in a jump sequence, before a salchow jump or flip jump which take off from a back inside edge.

just a side note on the triple toe half loop triple salchow combination .... i think this year the half-loop in the combination counts as a single loop in the scoring ... since, after all, the half loop is a 360 rotation ... some skaters in the past have used this combination ... surya bonaly in her 1994 worlds free skate and some other occasion, Tara Lipinski 1998 olympics free skate, maria butryskaia in the 2002 winter olympics free skate, joannie rochette last season.

Phenomenal performance!! I still feel there's room to improve by embodying the character more fully, especially emoting more. Physically Patrick could slick his hair back to visually mimick the Phantom more closely and I'd love to see a costume change. I think these improvements would put this already untouchable performance to one we'll be talking about long after Patrick's skating career.

Wow. That was incredible. I've some some great skates in my time, and that's one of them. However, the problem with being so brilliant at Nationals is keeping it up at Worlds. However, has Chan has had a fairly good season, so hopefully he can keep it up.

chan and takahashi fan!!!!
@lukosius122113 жыл бұрын
I think he might take the world title. I watched all programs from the best 20 skaters, and I can say it is Patrick Chan and Takahashi who are most likely to take it. Takahashi had problems landing his first quad, so if he fails to do that in the worlds as well, then Patrick has the title, however, if both perform flawlessly...then boy oh boy judges are gonna have a hard time deciding. However, I would say that Takahashi has better presentation that might just give him the edge.

@SimonaCB History is defined as what happened in the past, not as what's going to happen in the future. ;) And I'm not a fortune teller either. ;) And I was talking about the complexity of the entire program as a whole, and not particular elements (although they were all very well performed). I actually wouldn't be surprised if we only ever saw a few programs of similar difficulty.
@sumimimi014 жыл бұрын
@mdf1960 no. that is a turn.. if not, how to do salchow? i also thought that was wrong when i saw joannie rochette doing that. but i found out that that was the 3-turn before going into salchow
@MadZiggyStardust13 жыл бұрын
@SimonaCB Yes, we will see skaters executing even harder jumps in the future but that's beside the point. The point is that this kind of quality of basic skating, which allows him to have tons of transitions connecting all the elements together (because he generates speed so easily) is very rarely seen and I doubt we will see much of it in the future. We might not even ever see it again. The vast majority of skaters (whether now or in the past) don't do much besides stroking into their elements.

@adamzapple666 At 3:15 he singles the second jump of a 3 jump combo. A small error, correct?
@MadZiggyStardust14 жыл бұрын
@maovays See, the point here is that Chan excels at absolutely everything (well as long as he doesn't fall 3 times) and there weren't really any weak points in that performance. None of the programs you mentioned were anywhere near as complex in terms of transitions or program layout. And I don't remember them ever being performed with all the technical elements executed to such a high standard either.

@filipinoICEsk8ter That she might be, but it seems like they gush over her all the time like she's the only choreographer out there. I wish the skaters had to make their own programs, it would at least make it more interesting, especially considering everyone needs to get a "Nicol" program to hope and pray for component marks. I'm sure half the competition is done by her, and the top skaters like Patrick get their programs paid for by the federation, (sometimes up to 10,000 per program). Crazy.

it's great, but it's funny how much these people gush about Lori Nichol, I mean I think they say it like 5 times in this video, it's like they're her ad department. They probably give out better choreography marks just for having her name on your coaches list. Ugh.

@cheburashka19 I only mentioned Joubert because he thinks he still has a shot at the top with a clean program. Personally I think Joubert should have retired at the end of last season. He will never grow artistically to the level of other top competitors.
