@jonmkl
@jonmkl 5 жыл бұрын
Fernando Giubilei Living in the shadow of your father or ancestors is a fantastic character space to explore, and fear of being a failure is actually a great complex villainous character motivation. Additionally, a person with immense power who is dangerous because of their unhinged lack of control is a fantastic inversion of Vader, who is intimidating because he is always in control. Also Kylo is never presented as the main villain in TFA and only becomes the main villain in TLJ when he kills Snoke, and that’s after he decides that he doesn’t need or want to be Vader. It’s a character growth moment necessary to make him a main villain. He shouldn’t and won’t be TFA Kylo in TROS. Simply put I disagree to the point where I feel like you’re _objectively_ wrong.
@jonmkl
@jonmkl 5 жыл бұрын
@Lt. Colonel Tanya von Degurechaff Rose actually _is_ a bad character. I pity the series for having to include her, I'm sure Kelly does deserve better. Also the mood swings are the point, he's supposed to be unpredictable. That said, *you're right,* a good concept and good execution are two different things, and your mileage may vary on the latter. I'm just saying that if your _critique_ is: "This character is exactly what this character is supposed to be" then you're clearly missing the point entirely. Any criticism about how they can make Kylo more interesting within that character concept is completely founded, and he would have to change quite a bit in order to fill a main villain role in 9, (he's "the Dragon" in 7 and 8, not the big bad), but no more than Luke had to change between Empire and Return. With a time skip they could absolutely reintroduce him as a changed man and a credible final threat, but they'd have to really solidify his motivations, and since more of the fanbase wants to see him redeemed than be the big bad, that wouldn't be received well if we're being honest. Bringing in palpatine feels more like something they need to do to get the fans, who really did not like TLJ, to get invested again, and give them the opportunity to give Kylo a redemption arc (something that I did NOT want to happen, and really can't happen believably without someone as evil as papa palps around.) I just hope the leaks aren't true or Rise is gonna be a train wreck. PS: if Kylo is redeemed and it doesn't involve Anakin's ghost showing up and telling him "finish what I started" and then he kills palpatine, it's going to be the biggest missed opportunity in cinematic history.
@jonmkl
@jonmkl 5 жыл бұрын
@Lt. Colonel Tanya von Degurechaff That's totally fair. I kinda chocked his complete madness during the battle of noth up as a momentary reaction to being rejected, seeing the falcon, and worst of all seeing Luke (The holdo maneuver was also probably not the most uplifting moment to the new supreme leader, I'm sure). Sh** _was_ kind of falling apart at a moment when it should have been win after win for him. I fully expect Kylo to be different at the start of 9 and if he's not it will be a huge failure for his arc and the trilogy as a whole. I also appreciate that TLJ added something for Rey to struggle with, and I'm hoping they don't botch her in TROS, she really needs to come face to face with the dark side and learn that her recklessness, and maybe even her power, are something to be feared, that would make for an interesting struggle for her. Fans are gonna be pissed when she 100% inevitably takes the last name "Skywalker" and is the Skywalker to rise in TROS. I would much prefer to see something with real, world-changing lore implications like a new "Skywalker" order, or her and Ben Solo founding the new Jedi together with the Sith really and truly extinct (like they should have been after Return).
@jonmkl
@jonmkl 5 жыл бұрын
Lt. Colonel Tanya von Degurechaff What’s her struggle? That she’s literally been lying to herself about the fact that she’s a meaningless abandoned child by deluding herself into thinking she’s some meaningful chosen one. We see her with rebel dolls on Jakku, she lights up when the “legends” about Luke and the force are mentioned, she attaches to Han, the first father figure she meets, and expects Luke, the second father figure she meets to fill the same role. She’s terrified of Kylo in TFA, lashes out in anger, is drawn to the dark side with no real restraint. Yes, she can use a lightsaber, but we know that she was already proficient with Melee weapons, what’s the difference between a melee weapon and a lightsaber? It’s not like she fell into a starship at 8 years old, said “wow this is almost like a pod racer” and blew up an entire fleet, or got into an X wing for the first time and survived a dogfight with the greatest pilot in history, who was _also_ a sithlord Jedi Hunter. She’s also not as powerful as Kylo: he’s the one that defeats the majority of the praetorian guard, and he only lost to her in the first place because he’d been shot in the gut with a bowcaster we saw launch people on impact in episode 7. What exactly did Kylo do to earn the power to DEFEAT AND ESCAPE LUKE SKYWALKER back at Luke’s school? Oh that’s right, he’s a Skywalker. Like the protagonist of 1-3 that was literally the force’s Mary Sue, born with more power than Master Yoda, just because. This is Star Wars, it’s a series full of huge-ass Mary Sues, and no-one would have questioned it for a second if she was a Skywalker.

I forgot another point, but it is a separate topic anyway. Star Wars fans WANT the saga to go into new and different directions. However, we do not want that growth at the expense of all that has come beforehand. Star Wars is the rare franchise that has gone across multiple decades with multiple films without a reboot, re-imaging, and (for the most part) re-casting. Star Wars isn't like James Bond, super hero movies pre-MCU, or Halloween (which will be re-re-rebooted this October). Instead, Star Wars is like Rocky/Creed, Rambo, and the Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts sagas. Star Trek, the closest competition to Star Wars, has even been rebooted. And thanks to Disney's CGI magic, we have Star Wars actors reprising their roles despite being DEAD!! So forgive us if we get pissed off when a movie comes along that blatantly breaks the rules of the franchise and progressive storytelling in general all in the name of "subverting expectations" and "moving the franchise forward." A man that has spent years fighting to help and protect his friends and family for years, despite constantly facing near-impossible odds and almost certain death, is NOT going to runaway and hid on an island, just because he had one huge screw up!! A man that believed he could redeem a family member who (A) was the second most evil person in the galaxy and (B) he has no significant relationship with is NOT going to contemplate murdering different family member that man actually has a significant relationship with (both as blood relative and as student/pupil) because the kid MIGHT go evil someday. A commanding officer that has crew that is scared, desperate, and facing imminent destruction has a plan that can save them all AND that officer does not suspect sabotage or a mole, then that officer doesn't try to ease the crew's concerns with philosophical mumbo jumbo. That commanding officer tells the crew the plan, or at the very least she confirms that a plan exists. If a super midi-cholrean Jedi Master that has spent centuries studying the Force needs his full concentration to life a single x-wing out of a swamp, then some Jesse-Come-Lately that has been "studying" the Force for about 52 hours (at best) shouldn't be able to lift dozens of boulders on her first ever try without so much as a damn frown on her face. Wazupwitdat?! That's got noting to do with SJWs and gender politics. That's not me being an angry fanboy that didn't get what he wanted. That's just damn inconsistent storytelling!! Yes, the saga is about space wizards, aliens, faster than light travel, laser swords etc. It is still a saga with rules and history and character arcs and lore. Continuity matters, damn it!! We pissed off fans don't want Star Wars to turn into the Michel Bay Transfomers saga or The Fast & the Furious saga or the Halloween saga or the Terminator saga! We want new. We want difference. We want change. But most of all, we want Star Wars to be Star Wars!!! Continuity and consistency matter, damn it!! >:-(

To BJS999 = Although hindsight is 20/20, there were several ways that Rian Johnson could have brought forth the radical changes and growth that he wanted without breaking and burning the rules and lore of the franchise. Johnson didn't just break the rules of the franchise, he broke the rules of basic progressive story telling. The Rocky/Creed saga is an excellent example of progressive story telling. Creed introduces new characters and elements without destroying the legacy of what came before. Furthermore, I'm not a sore loser. I made a review on my own channel, and I offered a grade of "A with Fanboy Bias". I invite you to watch it.

BJS99 Watch Clone Wars & Rebels. They found ways of moving the franchise forward while respecting the continuity of SW. SW has become too focused on the visual and not enough on continuity, good story, good dialogue & character development. TLJ was cinematic but often makes no sense (consider: why would Rey be first to approach Luke, not Chewie with news of Hans’ death??? Makes NO sense in any universe. Very obvious the writer didn’t care about what makes sense in terms of character or relationship. I have MANY examples where TLJ just is nonsensical & rests on the laurels of being a SW movie- it doesn’t need to make sense, right? As long as it’s a good time? Why spoil the fun with LOGIC?).

Patrick, I think you nailed it when you said early on in the vid, "...maybe Star Wars fans don't want anything new, which may be the reason as to why they didn't like it." You're right: they don't (most don't, at least). I share your same beliefs with this movie and I too, thought that SW would last for "decades" as you eloquently put it. But we were both wrong. Aside from the countless backlash-videos I've watched here on KZbin, the hosts would never say as to WHY they hated it. -They just did. When I hear/read that kind of reaction, it makes me think of a mindless mob ruling. Then more people join the mob, because if all of these people hate the movie, well...I guess it's just not a good film! Scary thing is that this way of thinking is implemented in everything these days...including election outcomes. Keep doing what you're doing, Patrick! Peace! :)

GoT is about magic and dragons and zombies in a fantasy world, why shouldn't it be taken seriously, along with its internal consistency? Unless we say we don't care at all about internal consistency but that's a pretty lame rabbit hole to crawl in, there's always a point where everyone will say "come one, that's a little too much to follow, you weren't able to do this a minute ago, now you can because it's useful, the next moment you can't do it anymore, it makes no sense...". With the Prequels, they had their faults, and were hated because they didnt "feel" like Star Wars. With the Last Jedi, a movie that simultaneously FEELS like Star Wars and pushes the boundaries of what to expect from a Star wars movie, all of a sudden all of these issues (The Comedy, #PLOTHOLES, etc) are suddenly unforgivable....even though the Original trilogy has many of the very same sins - you just accepted them because you grew up with them and viewed them through a different lens.

@LogiKaiser See, iam glad you bring this up because its easy to demonstrate how what you "perceive" as a plothole, is infact no plot hole at all but simply a lack of attention to detail and/or misunderstanding by you. "What about how Holdo hyperspace rams the Imperial fleet when they could have done that at any point earlier in the film with any of the previous ships?" 1) you assume that a hyperspace ram is possible with any ship at any time(this is wrong) 2) While the novelization goes to great lengtht o explain this better than the movie, and i do admit that it isnt super obvious in the movie, there are a number of factors which made this ram a unique one off: - The raddus had experimental new shields (we see shield impacts for the first time in the movies aside from rogue one) that kept the energy of impact concentrated -The supremacy had lateral aligned shields (DJ hacks through one area of them) meaning the shields are vulnerable to a massive concentrated impact -the Raddus, was MASSIVE compared to any other ship the "rebels" had. any shamm ship wouldnt penetrate the shields or do damage -The FO leadership was surprised by the move but recognized that they were planning to hyperspace ram (hux shouts to shoot at the ship immediately)- indicates that ramming is a viable option during star wars battles (rogue one shows ramming too) -The way hyperspace works permitted this to happen based on how the story unfolded.(short story: a ship accelerates to a hyperspace entry point in normal space, up to lightspeed/travel speed, then enters hyperspaces and doesnt interact with objects other than mass shadows) -Holdo enters the hyperspace jump before the supremacy appears but is stopped by leia -the chase ensues and the hyperspace entry points stays stationary while the ships move away from it putting the supremacy between the raddus and the entry point. -(ill ignore safety mechanism for hyperspace because they can be turned off) -when the raddus jumps, it only collides witht he supremacy because the supremacy is between the raddus and its hyperspace entry point and because the jump is pre plotted since the start of the movie it doesnt take long before the raddus can jump, leaving not enough time for counter meassures. to name a few things that you seem to have missed in the movie secondly: "How about Holdo refusing to tell anyone her plan for no reason at all? Her plan was just Leia's plan with specifics and Leia had already told everyone that plan, Holdo's stupidity basically gets everyone killed." 1) you assume that a vice admiral has a responsibility to tell a just demoted captain with attitude anything at all other than where the brig is 2) at this point in time holdo and the leadership DOESNT know how they are being tracked, because poe, finn and rose keep it to themselves - its reasonable to assume a spy on board which feeds the FO the coordinates of the fleet after jump 3) Telling poe about some super secret plan that everything rides on risks that spy overhearing it so why would she tell him. 4) it made no difference: when poe figured out HIMSELF what the plan was he decided to do a half assed rescue attempt that ended up with that very same plan being told to DJ by accident. 5) Poe mutinied after knowing about the plan 6) You assume that there WAS a plan at that time. the original plan was to flee from the first order and jump to hyperspace, when that plan failed they had to come up with a different one. 7) you really just dont like holdo :) 8) poe is who gets everyone killed, if he would have done as he was ordered to do all the resistance members would have escaped. He violated orders to return to the raddus to jump away after completed evacuation, got like 70% of the rebel fights and pilots killed. Then decided to do his own rescue plan which ended up NOT WORKING (finn and rose got caught) and the FO learned about the resistance plan and killed the majority of resistance ships/members 9) poe acted exactly as holdo said, a reckless flyboy who doesnt follow orders because he thinks he knows better. If you want to talk about "realism" as i know TLJ haters like to do, poe would have been in the brig from the point of his outburst on the bridge. Holdo was SUPER lenient on him. Iam sure you got all these things from the movie right? but probably not, because if you did you wouldnt have formed the opinion you did. plot holes are not objective plot holes they are simply missed narrative details that YOU didnt get. :)

It introduces new ideas, evolves the new characters in ways I absolutely adore & brings back Luke in the only way I think is interesting. I also think a lot of the humour is totally out of place and borderline cringe-worthy. I didn't feel that the huge Finn & Rose diversion warranted its existence to its fullest degree, and I really feel like the film should have found a way of wrapping up much earlier. Also, Rian introduces the brilliant concept of their being no Sith or Jedi with the idea of Kylo and Rey being the beginning of something completely new, and then completely undoes all of that; reverting back to a more familiar scenario for the third film in the trilogy... The film hovers around a 7/10 for me, but I do admire a lot of what its doing. Meerkat Chris The movie introduces something new and "completely undoes all of that"? TLJ is the second installment a trilogy. It served to show us the beginning of the new order, not to have it happen immediately. The fact that you're so impatient means that it was successful at setting up the main drive of the conflict, but second installments never resolve the main conflict. That's for the third act. How is it "completely undone"? Second installments always end with the direst moments of conflict, so that the resolution pays off. Rey taking Kylo's hand immediately would have been badass, but it would not have been as decisive as when she will take his hand in IX when they've both grown in wisdom.

Any real improvement to the situation requires action and that's why Jedi take action lots of times before this. There is nothing wrong with fighting or even killing so long as you do so for good reasons and only do it to protect people. That's why Jedi carried weapons, they need them to help people. It was sloppy, and they wave their weapons around like circus clowns, the visual for the scene distracts you from the glaring and sloppy composition and weak choreography because Rian Johnson isnt one who cares about that stuff @@BorgTube47

i wholly agree with the assessment that star wars fans dont understand change and surprise anymore. the OT was as different and surprising as the sequels , especially TLJ at their time. thing of it, a wise jedi master portrayed as a goofy jokster in a swamp ? A weird force vision? the bad guys win? TLJ really doesnt differ much in tone and expectation subversion from ESB, the difference is that only in ANH, ESB and ROTJ did we really get surprised and expectations subverted. the prequels filled in gaps to an end result that we already knew. Anakin turning into Vader is obviously no surprise, palpatine being the emperor is no surprise. So the vast majority of the last 2 generations of star wars fans dont know what its like to have their expectations over established star wars tropes be subverted. TLJ is very true to how ESB felt in cinema. and people simply dont get it.

I actually respect everything you say here, and I am still EXTREMELY happy to have a Star Wars movie that actually feels like a personal statement, again (which hasn't happened since Lucas). It's inventive and energized, takes risks, and has clunky moments, again....just like Lucas. That said...I still, personally, see this as the "Skywalker Saga," and I kind of feel like the idea of "moving on" from the Skywalkers wasn't suited for the penultimate chapter of their story. If all of this had happened in Johnson's stand-alone trilogy, I would be standing and cheering. I also feel like (and it's basically been confirmed) there's no story oversight going on here. This trilogy does not feel like a unified narrative, and that bugs me. So, I have mixed feelings...and I don't think that will go away.

Pretty compact comment (for my standards) packed with everything I feel, thanks! :-) There were gorgeous things happening there and Johnson gets pissed upon way too much. But when it comes to being integrated in the trilogy and the bigger story I can't follow it. For me it felt like they wanted everything: something brand new but bringing back the old characters... Sometimes if you want to do too many things you end up doing nothing really well.

It's nice to watch someone so clearly enjoy something. Personally I thought TLJ was a bad movie (bad writing, bad character motivations, bad plot, just bad everything), but it might be more accurate to say that TLJ was a bad _fit_ for me, and obviously it was a GOOD fit for Patrick. The things he lists at the end that he enjoyed the most were some of the things I enjoyed the least. But I'm happy to see that someone enjoyed it and didn't feel like it was a waste of their time to watch. Patrick's glee is infectious, so I'll just have to settle for enjoying TLJ vicariously.

I think what bothered me about this movie is ultimately is its writing. It had cool concepts but failed to deliver on them from a literary aspect. It could have been the deep philosophical Star Wars movie we all wanted, but failed to deliver it. In fact looking back thats an issue Rian Johnson has had with looper as well, I loved that movie but parts of its writing seemed problematic. Also I think poe's arc and finns arc was really really bad. I feel like rian really wanted to make a movie about duality of the force and kinda forgot to write their parts till last minute. In the future, I think star wars needs a writer director duo rather letting a director take care of everything.

I’ve been immersing myself in TTRPG as of late, and I have had the epiphany that Star Wars is more akin to Dungeon and Dragons than it is to a piece of genre fiction like The Lord of the Rings or Dune. Since 1987, when West End Games developed the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Games, Star Wars has ceased to be a film franchise and has become a RPG franchise. This all started with the aforementioned RPG that created source books and rules and such for all things in Star Wars; then those rules were translated into the first major expanded universe media: The Thrawn Trilogy and The Dark Empire Trilogy: the authors literally took the RPG source books and used them to write the novels. Throughout the 1990s, Star Wars was essentially using the same playbook: create toys and games that all fit within the same general RPG playbook and theme (a Stormtrooper is approximately this strong, a Star Destroyer is this large and powerful, etc.). This is probably part of the reason why the prequels are so dull but internally consistent: they were making adaptation of an RPG not a narrative fiction like Dune (where it doesn’t matter how powerful Paul Atreides is as long as his actions fit the narrative). This is most likely why so many old school fans had an issue with the sequel trilogy (outside of the old EU being ignored): Disney did not want to maintain the style and structure of an RPG, they wanted to use a more narrative style of storytelling. With this style, Rey doesn’t have a RPG style character sheet, she can do whatever she needs to progress the story. Now was this a wise approach for Star Wars? Hard to say, but with this context, the last three decades of Star Wars does seem to make much more sense.

Good video. Entertaining to watch. I don't think the movie is good, but I like your analysis of it. Something I always find interesting about TLJ videos is how they're almost always structured around a response to the Star Wars fanbase at large. As someone who wouldn't describe himself as a big Star Wars fan (my favorite piece of Star Wars media is probably the shooter game Republic Commando), I feel like all conversations about the movies are polluted by an underlying need to support or rebut some mainstream opinion. I don't really interact with the Star Wars fanbase, but I have some cultural osmosis understanding of how passionate the fans can be. The credits scene was the bit I agreed with the most: Having a strong opinion on Star Wars movies seems exhausting.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II is one of my favorite video games. It really examines and highlights the many intentional "flaws" and the unintentional flaws baked into the Star Wars universe cake, and reconciles them. It lets you accept them, and think about the flaws not as a detriment to Star Wars or a result of bad writing, but as assets which add depth to the world and are valuable to the Star Wars universe. I mean damn, the entire game is based on Jedi elitism and incompetence, and the greyness of the world. When I watched The Last Jedi (and, upon rewatching, even The Force Awakens to an extent) I was reminded of Knights of the Old Republic. Sure, it wasn't perfect at doing what KotOR II did, but it certainly tried and mostly succeeded, and that's good enough for me. Great even. If a movie can capture even a smidgen of that game's incredible writing and plot, it's a damn good movie. PS: I know SW: KotOR II isn't canon, but that doesn't mean it's loving criticisms of Star Wars are any less valid than they were when the game came out.

I sincerely feel like Rise of Skywalker didn't have a chance because Last Jedi refuses to function as the second part of a trilogy. Force Awakens works well to establish interesting characters and mysteries, but by the time you get to Rise of Skywalker, it's like, "well, what now? We pretty much have to start from scratch because every personal conflict we set up was resolved in the previous film. Rian left us NOTHING." I largely view Rise of Skywalker's failure as a symptom of one of Last Jedi's many failures.

So you didn't have a problem with re-writing the Living Force to be a nihilist contrarian? Rian told us that the Force takes an active part in thwarting everyone's plans, and that that was the whole basis for Luke becoming a nihilist himself. Rey is optimistic for now, but the lesson seems to be that if she learns more about the Force like Luke did, she'll eventually give up trying to change anything. And the "optimistic" message that "anyone" can be a Jedi is only because "the Force doesn't belong to us"; the Force giveth and taketh away. If the good guys would just stop trying to be good, then there would be no spontaneous creation of evil in the universe, and then there would be no use for counter-balancing the scales with the Force. So force sensitivity would basically disappear if people would stop trying to do things. That's just depressing as hell. If I had been told 40 years ago that the only thing sadder than Luke dying would be the fact that he didn't slash his wrists sooner, I would have saved myself both the movie ticket and the 40 year wait.

Since the internet is on fire with people tearing the film apart on hand and others fanboying on the other, I'm desperately looking for well voiced opinions to help me change the "meeeeeh" feeling I left the cinema with when I saw The Last Jedi... I'm sorry to tell, you didn't help me much. Just like many people trying to explain to me why I'm an idiot because I didn't hate the movie, you're kinda trying to explain to me why I'm kind of an idiot because I didn't love it. Is there a parallel universe where all you guys understand that this usually does not work...?? I feel like I've been strawmanned much, being explained a lot of things of how I see the movie (for example it seems I don't understand why humour is good, nice to know). If you really must know you can ask me, but maybe better: you guys who want to make videos and comments about SW can maybe explain with more CONSTRUCTIVE points why you hate or love it. I've seen a few of these, albeit not a lot to be honnest. When they give me something concrete I'm usually glad. On the positive side for example, the parallel of the death shot of Luke compared to one of the first shot in the OT with the two suns was pretty satisfying. On the negative side, the fact that the gap between the two trilogies is not well addressed and makes things feel a little hollow or convenient (seems you were not bothered by that much though) is hard to ignore for me. But really, mostly it's about you people telling us we're idiots... I don't really care that much, I don't know you and never will, I would just prefer not lose my time with that... No offence, really... So, just out of consistency and to give a few examples and be a minimum constructive myself, for example: - You're telling us what you found funny. Basically you're telling us almost explicitely that if we didn't laugh as much we don't like like humour. I was quite perplex I must say. - You're telling us what you felt, e.g. that if felt like an adventure. I myself did not feel that way, though I'm really waiting for the SW movie that will make me feel the thrill of the adventure of the OT. There is no convincing here overall, it's hard to tell people what they SHOULD have felt. It's probably more interesting to understand why people felt differently. Without strawmanning if possible. - When was SW EVER about a few select bloodlines ? I agree with you on Luke, the ordinary guy who was thirsty for more. This bloodline stuff is a fan stuff, in SW with a monk-like not-reproducing order, it makes no freaking sense whatsoever. I would have loved that the new trilogy would be about something else than the Skywalkers. - Like many people, you explain that the Jedi order "sucked" followed by no interpretation of why this is so, where it comes from, what went sideways exactly with Anakin, just that the Jedi "needed to evolve" because they "burrowed their emotions deep inside", more or less. Given the oriental philosophies that served as templates for the Jedi, this feels like an incredible counter-sense: these philosophies are actually about the opposite, facing your emotions to avoid being controlled by them. That's what the Jedi were about. Anakin failed as a Jedi. Luke was conflicted, yes, tempted, yes, but in the end managed to walk that path anyway. As a side effect he brought back (a little) his father along the way. People have to evolve and transform, people can fail, the order is just fine. Also, this thing of becoming more powerful when transforming into ghost because "lightning" feels a little cheap. There are for sure deeper interpretations of this that also provide a basis for applying it to our world and help us grow. But hey, on that spiritual side I'm a probably the equivalent of SW nerds when it comes to light speed...

If Luke hadn't just died at the end and sort of redeemed himself and survived, it likely would have been better received, it was clear that a lot was being set up for the third one to be all about Leia and Kylo Ren with even Adam Driver hinting at that and how with Carrie Fisher's death they would have to do massive changes. In reality, Rian Johnson should have been given the trilogy or a more unified trilogy structure because it is just ending up with The Last Jedi standing out because they bottled it and panicked with the next film, and it felt on an island. The torch wasn't passed on very well either to the new generation by all films, nor does the three films feel like they came together into a unified tale.

Patrick: Uh, I would be worried if everyone across the board was like "Yeah, that was a good video". It's much more exciting to me when there are some comments saying "I agree with everything you said" and then there are others that say "That was the dumbest video I've ever seen". Having those two extremes is the mark of the type of video I want to make, so-" (side nod and smirk)

I love this video!!! I had a conversation with a friend after this movie came out and we touched on many of these points, and even others that weren't here, like relating to the specifics of the Light vs. dark. It's such an amazing movie and I'm so frustrated that others have such a hard time seeing that.

Great movie. Glad another Star Wars fan enjoyed it because it has been so polarising and if you only listened to angry internet nerds you'd think it was more hated than loved, but in real world terms I think it's about 50/50.

All verified audience polls have proven that it's more 90/10 positive. Cinemascore has it at an A score, and surveymonkey and comscore who polled audiences got an average of 89% positive for the movie. The angry neckbeards will try to convince you differently, but it's just a very vocal minority.

@@ed1rko17 - actually, TLJ only has a 42% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes - that's essentially real viewers saying it's bad - the 90% is from critics and they were likely paid by the studio for that score

@@ontrakmerchantservices9984Actually, all the polls I listed are verified audience polls, not critic scores. Rotten Tomatoes audience score was unverified as nerds could just review bomb films they didn't like. TLJ was actually one of the films that motivated Rotten TOmatoes to change their audience review system. All the polls I listed are audience reviews that are actually verified by ticket sales. And they are all around 90% positive. Plus, critics are not paid by studios. If they were, TROS would not have like a 48% score. So the scientific, statistical evidence factually proves that somewhere around 85%-95% of audiences liked TLJ.

@@ed1rko17 - actually many critics ARE paid by studios, directly or indirectly - many are schilling for them because their employers are paid by them for advertisements. Rotten Tomatoes is one of the universally accepted measurements - the 90% critic's score is being viewed as indeed schills for Disney. Remember: "nerds could just review bomb films they didn't like" - but those "nerds" watched the movie and didn't like it - that isn't fake, they're real fans that voted low. Plus, it's highly unlikely that it was just "nerds just review bombing films they didn't like" The entire ST sucks.

@@ontrakmerchantservices9984 As I mentioned, all the credible and verified audience polls proved that TLJ's audience score on RT was brigaded and not accurate. RT review system is susceptible to brigading, the ones I listed are not. Therefore, you know that RT is inaccurate. If critics are shills for Disney, then why did they give TROS a 48%, and TLJ a 90%? Maybe because TLJ is a good and popular movie.

Ya, TLJ is great. If you just don't like space adventure sh*t then that's cool. But the whole over 30 guy making 2 hour youtube videos about how a PG film whose creator says is for 12 year olds "ruined" their childhood, forget it being pathetic for a sec, but all those videos are loaded with headslappingly stupid critiques. They're either 1) things that apply to all Star Wars movies (Luke was always whiny and conflicted, that's why he's an interesting character) 2) show that you can't grasp basic narrative themes (videos about how TLJ is nihilistic when it's obviously a rejection of nihilism).
