Patrick Kane and Lucas Raymond on contracts, re-signing with Red Wings

Patrick Kane's one-year contract and Lucas Raymond's three-year contract with the Red Wings are now up. We asked both forwards about signing an contract-extension with the Red Wings after the team's season ended without making the NHL playoffs.

@@a.N..... I think he’d value a longer contract than a higher pay though, at this point with his age and injury. He’s not ready to retire but he knows he’s not in his prime and his injury is still considered a gamble (no one knows how long his hip can remain in this condition for), so I think he’s gonna take whatever will let him play the longest while also at a reasonable enough price, even if he probably deserves more based on performance alone.

i think its pretty simple with Kaner. He's not mentally ready to quit playing hockey at a professional level so his number one priority is getting a few years locked down. He's probably concerned about his injury history and age being something that keeps getting him short contracts and he wants stability. He loved his time here and the people he played with but being able to continue to play this sport at this level is his number 1 priority. thats what i'm getting from the whole thing.

Give him 5 years at 1.5 or something that won't be too serious of an impact cap wise after a couple good seasons. His hip will likely last 2 more seasons and then need a redo. I duno. Hard to say. He's incredible still but how does he hold up over 80 games and a playoff run? Is he point a game next year or out on LTIR? 2.5 x 5... worst case sombrero he goes on LTIR for the last few years. Duno. Can't see 5x5 or 4x4. Could see couple mil per for 5. 😊

I think 5 years at 2m with incentives would be a great deal for him and I changed my mind about whether he'd stay after watching. After I read this interview, I thought he's for sure leaving, but what I missed is that he said he wants longevity (which Yzerman will give him if the money is right) and to play where he fits the team. He had just finished saying how well he felt on this team, so I think he's going to end up signing.

I think Yzerman can give Kane 2 years at the right price. However, Yzerman is a poker player. He reveals nothing until he gets what he wants. His comments about long term deals to restricted free agents was meant to be heard my Raymond and Sieder’s agents. If they can get Raymond at 8 years for $7M the deal will be done. Sieder is likely same term at $6.5M. I won’t sweat it yet.

@@jackconrad2667 Realistically, the loser of this year’s Stanley cup finals may give him more than 3 years. Otherwise, he is looking at 2 years at 3.5 a year or 3 years at 2.5 a year. Just depends on how he fits into a teams system.

Cat had 12 assists to Kane in 49 full games. when Kane got Cat taken away at the end he was 100% gone; but he was PROBABLY gone earlier, after they broke up Kane Cat Larkin for the last time and put them back w Compher for the Washington game. if they use Kane Cat Larkin every game after Larkin comes back, they are in the playoffs right now. Larkin's season tribute post on ig was the Toronto winner, him Kane and Cat celebrating. he knows. Lalonde ruined everything.

Especially with how bad some of the defenseman were. Moreover, if you look at Yzerman’s career, you can easily tell that he puts two way play above scoring. I’m sure that’s what he wants his coach to do as well.

Kane won't be back. Boston will drop to Toronto in the first round and come looking for Kane for next year. I hope he signs with Detroit but he sounds like a guy on his way out. Kane made Detroit better this year. Coaching and defense is not improving.

Kane is playing chess while the Detroit media plays checkers. A team that shows him a PATH to coaching, management or ownership is going to win his services. At his age, he's made himself a HOF career and knows he's got 1-2 years left before he plays below his standards. He's made $115 million so far in his career but is now thinking WHAT COMES NEXT when playing is no longer an option? .
