i noticed kelce breaks the huddle before mahomes a lot. i’m convinced he doesn’t know or care what the play call is most of the time and simply ad-libs, finds a soft spot in the zone and squats there. 😀

“He became the first 49ers quarterback to throw for over 300 yards in a game since 2004 when he completed 20 of 32 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown in a 33-30 win over the Seattle Seahawks” I remember when you brought a breath of fresh air to the 49ers. Seeing a QB throw for 300 and play well excited all of us! If you were given more opportunities you would have been QB1 for a long time in the bay. I made sure my son watched your tapes and learned how it’s done! Always will be a 49er to us!

As I watch you talk about kelce turning down routes, I start to wonder if maybe he’s missing opportunities to pull defenders away from some of the wides for bigger gains. Like, when he settles into the midfield instead of following what should be a double post, does that leave the other post receiver over covered so they can’t shake free?

For the first time in his career Patrick has a young group of receivers that he has to build chemistry with, an entirely new set of relationships. Everything will be on the same page after the bye week. He’s been pretty consistent within the pocket letting his O line work to protect him, so he can find his target and get the ball out. He’s also got a new set of OTs that unfortunately have had to learn how to protect him, his play style, how he plays the position. These receivers will get it together, my only concern revolves around Skye Moore. He does throws with such great touch on the ball 🏈, he doesn’t need full arm rotation to get it to the target 🎯.

Great content. However, I disagree with one point. You noted that you didn't like Mahomes complaining at the end of his scramble that set up the 60 yard field goal. My thought is that Pat was lobbying for that extra 15 yards. You mentioned that had he known the kick would have been good from 70 that he could have slid. My argument is that he has such awareness of the field that he knew the kick was going to be perilously long when he goes down and is trying to make things a bit easier on Butker. Other than that I enjoyed the insight you provided and have now subscribed for more content. Keep up the good work.

Truthfully, it seems like mahomes and andy reid are in a disagreement on who the starting wrs should be. For example, mahomes doesn't target or even look their way when mvs or skyy moore is on the field. But whenever rice, toney, or ross is in the game mahomes will give them opportunities to make a play. It sounds weird to say, but Veach and his crew need to have their eyes scouting tight ends and receivers who are currently freshmen and sophomores to develop and replace Travis Kelce once he inevitably retires. (Yes, I know Kelce was a quarterback for a long time.) Preferably someone with good hands, good route-running ability, the size and strength to make contested catches and break tackles, a high football IQ, and a coachable demeanor. The reason I say they need to start looking now is I'm already starting to worry about the lack of depth behind Kelce, and he's not getting any younger.

But when Mahomes throws to an open kelce and he has to stop his progress and flop his body and end up turning all the way around because Mahomes doesn’t lead him like he should it’s just “great play great throw great catch”. Regarding the play at 35:00, O'Sullivan made a mistake. It's obvious to me that 74 was assigned to block #0, who was lined up as the edge rusher, but he dropped into covering Kelce. If anything, the call or adjustment was wrong, it's not on 74, who turned to face his expected assignment and saw nobody. Most likely, it was a superior play call by Vance, who has chops of his own. Sometimes the D wins big on calls, too.
@spiderwebb222
@spiderwebb222 Жыл бұрын
Please tell us, how is it obvious what 74 was assigned to do? Do you have inside knowledge of the Chiefs blocking schemes? It's obvious what he tried to do, but it's also obvious that there wasn't supposed to be a free rusher through the B gap, so obviously somebody messed up their assignment. Whether that's on 74 or the right guard is unclear at best - and that's exactly what JT says, so he's hardly making a "mistake". My best guess: the entire line except the right tackle slides to the left, so I'm guessing he was supposed to slide left too and block the B gap, but there are several other possibilities too. I wouldn't say anything about the blocking assignments in that play was obvious.
@bookman7409
@bookman7409 Жыл бұрын
@@spiderwebb222 Didn't you see #0 lined up as a 9-tech/edge? He's over Kelce, and would you expect him to attempt to cover him, as an OLB vs an elite TE? Furthermore, that's who 74 turned to face, and was left standing alone. If he didn't believe that 0 was his assigned man, why would he turn that way? Could it be that he simply didn't hear the adjustment? Of course, but a wrong adjustment call is also popular, and, as I said, it's quite possible that DEN just got one over on them that play. But my bottom line is that there was an EDGE to his side and Kelce wasn't assigned to block him, and he obviously played that way. He took his initial position and settled in before realizing the problem, rather than realizing he'd made a mistake immediately, his body language is clear that he thinks he's where he's supposed to be, until it was too late, though it was too late when he deployed right, rather than inside. If you don't believe that, so be it, but what else could he have been thinking when he played that way, "where am I supposed to go?" wouldn't have looked like that. A mistake maybe, but whose?

I see that 74 still don't get penalized for illegal formation and/or false start on pass plays.

Interesting how ordinary he looks without Tyreek Hill, Shuster, and when Kelce wasn't in at the beginning of the year. He's used to these guys bailing him out. Look at what what Tyreek Hill is doing for Tua right now. Joe Montana won two Super Bowls before he had the Superstars surrounding him like Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Brent Jones, Rathman, etc. Rookie Roger Craig wasn't even a starting RB yet, he was just a blocking Fullback when he won his 2nd Super Bowl, the rest were regular players. That's the difference between the all-time elite greats and the really good. They can elevate the journeymen around them and make them look like Pro Bowlers.

Those superbowl teams pre jerry rice were great teams and were balanced . I believe they were top 3 in offense and 1 defense. Plus they had dwight Clark and Wendell Tyler...Craig was rb2 but was a weapon in the pass game..and a genius play caller in walsh
