seeing patrick say “that’s a lot of lights…” with that little laugh/waver in his voice… oh my god. over a decade ago, the reception to soul punk was so (unfairly) bad, the blog he wrote in response to all the hate was so rough to read that people were genuinely concerned it was a suicide note. and now, in 2023, people are in the audience, shining their lights on him, cheering as he sings it, and even singing along. i can’t help but think of another soul punk song, Coast (It’s Gonna Get Better). “it’s gonna get better/it’s gonna work out/give it a minute/it’s gonna turn around” i guess he was right. :)

I was at this show last night, I was up in the pit. At one point, I thought there was a bunch of crowd surfers, I was like “Awe look, they’re having fun”… until I saw people “surfing them up to the front where security guards were dragging their limp bodies over the barricades. People were dropping from heat exhaustion. I myself had to keep sitting down in order to keep from passing out or puking, I even found it hard to breath. It was my little 14yo sisters first time in a pit, so I stuck it out with her until I noticed her gripping her chest when they started playing Saturday. She couldn’t breath so I had to fight the crowd to get her out of there. Despite all the money we had to spend on drinks, the sweating and the heat exhaustion, she still insists that it was the best night of her life
