People need to realize that no one is perfect, I think the biggest thing about Jon is that he relates to a lot of us. You might think you’re perfect, but the fact is, ain’t nobody perfect. Nobody is without fault. More relatable than most fighters. It’s not a fake persona, it’s just a guy who has faults, and is also a crazy mf. Jones is a reflection of all of us. Ppl point and judge but go home and have their own battles and fight their own demons. The difference is Jones life and mishaps are live and direct on a screen for all to see. When it's all said and done he will go down as one of the greatest athletes ever, and a lot of his greatness comes from his testimony and resilience. To overcome mental obstacles is the hardest thing us as humans have to do, Jones has done this time and time again. Being a Albuquerque NM resident Jon inspires us to do better and not be afraid to succeed in the midst of Kaos, your mistakes, bad judgments and wrong doings are not the end.... you can turn things around and be a better person for it.

Dude, the construction of that documentary was solid. The way the story line rises and falls lures one into depths of your theme. The references to the book, Relentless, and personification of John's identity as a, "Cleaner" simply weaved the whole project into a tight braid. Inspirational as f*@$. Thanks. P.S. I still believe your doc. on Dana and the UFC is prophetic- if I recall, it was made before the WWE merger as well as talk of unifying all championship belts into one - the BMF on the planet. Just give it a few more years; at most.
@Shakespearept Жыл бұрын
Great mini doc. Interesting angle to look at the Jon Jones story. Real power and striving to be better mixed with human weakness and deep darkness. Love watching the UFC and the sport of MMA, but the stories take things to a new level. So much is revealed about a person's self when they are striving to be great. Especially in the fight game. Parables on the human condition.

This "cleaner" personality aspect is something I always thought about professional athletes, but above all, combat sports athletes. In order to be good at hitting another human, but above all, keep calm and composed when someone is beating you up in front of millions of viewers, requires a completely different mindset, emotional coldness and pain tolerance that "we" don't have, and we will never will. I would say Jones became the GOAT precisely because he mentally deviates even from his fellow GOATs(Silva, GSP, MM, etc), he is the only one that fights like he is not even slightly concerned about his opponent body integrity, but also didn't let Gus break his mental integrity either.

Bad guys never win, they may use some people and get a little bit ahead of them or the goodness in general, but they never win. The good guy who is capable and understands his shadow wins. Jones isn't a guy that wants to do harm. He more or less didn't manage his shadow, which in a way is his bad side. I didn’t know he had a sister. Her manner of passing definitely has affected Jon. That being said, we learned about all the significant people who have impacted him. Is it me or did we not learn who his psychiatrist is ????? He definitely has to have shrink. RIGHT ??

I have a theory that jon jones is afraid of being good out of some religious belief that god takes the good ones early for example her sister

I always thought that whoever asked that question of Jon had a moment of genius. Thanks Patrick for taking on a journey of having us explore that question. I have struggled with self destructive tendencies and funny enough actually received award the day after my biggest blunder. A weird similarity. So this made me think about my own story quite a bit. The ability to do whatever I put my mind to equally matched to my own ability to sabotage it.

I relate to having a dark side, I think some people under certain circumstances let it come through unfortunately, while others are able to keep it at bay. Jon says nobody knows who he is and sometimes I feel the same way. I have always been a very well mannered son and man, courteous to others who deserve it, but deep down I am a savage caveman who'll kill you with a rock or my bare hands. I know I'm coming off as psycho or serial killer-ish, but I'm really not, I am 25, I have a nice 2 bedroom with a 6 month old son who is the light of my life and the woman I love with me, and I'd never do ANYTHING to jeopardize that, but sometimes, I do wish somebody could understand the savageness, and the level of primalness that lies at the center of my being. If I could be born into medieval times where war was fought for glory with swords and crossbows, I'd live that life 1000 times over, slaying, conquering and killing. Only regret being I wouldn't be able to have a good son to grow up to be a good man, not with that kind of life. Perhaps I overshared, but that segment of the video really struck me, and I felt like I had to get this out, it is the internet, FAR worse has been on here lol
