Honorific titles show respect - for Chinese and for American Natives. When I lived in China, I was very flattered when parents instructed their children to call me "auntie". That felt so good, and I know it was at least partly because I spoke a reasonable amount of Mandarin. It's all about respect. I grew up with that and have always been a bit surprised and offended at any lack of respect for elders (certainly for those who have earned it, not just by living to old age, but by living an honorable life).

I grew up in Kansas, and my father was an MD. He took me to a show by a patient of his who gave performances of Shawnee Native American dances. Dad took me to meet him after the show. He asked me for a date, and my father approved on the spot. I spent the evening of out date learning about Native American customs, stories and beliefs. That was the best date of my life, and I'm in my 60s.

I’m 1/4 Chiricahua Apache and I was 26 when my paternal grandmother got ahold of her adoption papers and found out that she was stolen from the Apache Nation. I was with her when she found out and I was with her when she went to the rez in arizona to meet her sisters. It was the first time my grandmother was ever a whole person and the reason why she was obsessed with all things native finally made sense. I’m so happy to see native Americans on yt and in other places in social media. We have always been proud of Bernie here in Vermont because he is honest and genuine. To watch all this activity with his meme is heartwarming. I found Bernie Sanders to be so endearing and cute. The way he carried himself and dressed was like how my Dad would have done for so many years before he passed.
