@Sennnsie what are you trying to do? find the roots? it is already factored in this case, so just set the stuff inside the parenthesis equal to zero and solve.

@mbdsfan1 you could make one side zero and try to factor (it will not factor though). the question really is: what number squared, then multiplied by 2 is going to equal a negative number though?

if you are trying to put the entire problem into your calculator all at once, you might try breaking it down into small parts, and do more computations. calculator syntax must be exact, or you obviously get the wrong answer! this is why i stopped using calculators and became better at math as a result

Alright, in the 2nd problem (@ 8:56) after you've factored out your 2. You mentioned you didn't want to factor the 2 out of the 10. Whereas my natural instinct was to toss the 10 on the other side of the equal sign and divide by 2 to keep fewer numbers on my paper. What was the reason you didn't want to do this, if you don't mind my asking? not questioning your method, just looking to learn for later problems. Thanks and great video!!

i think I have seen the other video you are referring to. In that one you took -6x and multiplied it by half, getting a -3, that you squared to get positive 9. But in that one you added the 9 in ()s, but also subtracted 9 from the constant 8 to get -1 And left the 0 alone. in this one you add 25/4 to the 0 because you added inside the ()s. Why didn't you add 9 to the 0 in the other video? Or what makes this equation different?

@remi: bring the 1 on the left side of the equation to the right side, dont forget to change sign. That will make the eq has the form of ax^2 + bx +c =0 and you got it from there.
