AVP has done an incredible job with Maye. Beyond that, he's inherited one of the least talented O-lines in the league, and a receiving corp stocked with 3rd options. Yes, the play-calling is mundane, but he can't add complexity with this group because they've proven they can't execute. Gotta crawl before we can walk. I've said this in every comment-section in Boston sports media, and I'm gonna keep saying it: half the players suiting up in these games won't even be Patriots next year. AVP, and Mayo, have done an amazing job with Drake, and that was their most important task. Beyond that, they've taken a garbage o-line, and a questionable group of receivers and got this team competitive in every game but one since giving Maye the job. The fact that we're even looking for wins this year, and mad when we don't get them, is proof this coaching staff is exceeding expectations. Covington maybe isn't the guy, cuz that's a talented group that should be playing better. But to have an offense starting mostly scout-team talent in a vanilla scheme playing hard and taking teams to the final play is proof we may really have something in these coaches. Dan Campbell went 3-13 in his first year, and look at the Lions now. Rebuilds take time, and we need to be patient. Mayo and AVP have earned another year and a shot at picking some of their own guys. After next year, we'll know a lot more, but right now, blaming the coaches is some reactionary bull****. We were one Hunter Henry catch, or one 4th down stop, or one fewer holding call away from a gutsy win yesterday. We're that close!Progress is what matters this year, not wins and losses. On that score, with how Drake is playing, the Tight Ends yesterday, Gonzo all year, Pop and Boutte coming on, I like this team, and I like this coaching staff (except maybe Covington). So chill out. Put the torches and pitchforks down. We are way ahead of schedule.

YESSSSS!!!!! THANK YOU !!!!! I have been preaching that same thing!!!! Very well said !! And even Polk and Baker....let's give them time....Boutee is a prime example that sometimes a WR needs a season to get acclimated to the game at the NFL level. I haven't written off either of the rookie WRs we drafted this year..,,and I think Bell at tight end was a steal in the 7th and he continues to develop behind the scenes. Very excited on where this team is headed !! Let's go!!!! 🤙🤙

@scottv9479 yup! I agree with every word. Everybody's screaming to trade for some high-priced #1 receiver and I'm thinking that guy may already be on the roster, but just isn't ready yet. And the big thing is how much more incredible the fan experience is when your superstars grow from within. Bruschi, Edelman, Troy Brown, even Brady. It's so much more fun rooting for those type of guys than the mercenary you paid top dollar to come help.

I think most fans are coming around on AVP, it’s getting clear he is really good at scripting a drive because the first 1-2 are usually really good drives. He needs to do a better job in situational plays, but I think the more they trust drake the more it will come.

“Elevate” him to assistant head coach or something, and hire a real OC with a real offensive scheme. He’s a glorified QBs coach, and he’s doing a great job with that, but we really need an offensive identity around here.

If they would just stop running the ball on 2nd and long 95%, of the time that might be enough to get them and extra 7 to 10 points a game.

AVP is the best of the 3 (OC< DC HC) Mayo has to go - period full stop. Anyone consider that the uber conservative Mayo has the breaks on the offense?
@Kyle_RielКүн бұрын
You have to give your head coach more than a year, dude. IMO, you give any new coach 3 years to try to do his thing. And Kraft knew what he was getting into with Jerod, a brand new coach. Are you a TikToker? You don't just swipe left on new management. These things need to grow and breathe.
@Oldguard_8Күн бұрын
@@Kyle_Riel I hear what you're saying, but what I've seen from Mayo is like a player after a couple practices and you can tell 'he can play in the league' Mayo acts like he played high school ball - he's known for years he was getting this promotion, and just isn't smart/knows enough. He will forever be outcoached and even if they win games behind a stud QB, he will hold them back.
@BCSully83Күн бұрын
@Oldguard_8 The brakes in this offense are a sketchy offensive line, full stop. Awful footwork and low athleticism leads to holding calls and a ton of false-starts, cuz they're trying to jump the snap and get a head-start on much quicker d-linemen. Mayo has this team playing hard and competing in games we all thought before the season were gonna be wipeouts. I said it in my earlier comment - the fact that we're even looking for wins now, and we're upset when we don't get them, is proof Mayo has this team fighting hard. We were never going win anything this year. Rebuilds take time and Mayo has this team in a good spot to take the next step. I'll say this until I'm blue in the face: Dan Campbell went 3-13 his first year. The Lions stuck with him, and look what he's built in Detroit. We are in the exact same position right now as they were, and our best chance of improving is building on what's been started this year, not cutting bait and starting a coaching search.

@@BCSully83 Dude, we disagree on Mayo - you site the DET coach...I can site Mike Singletary - but I know what I see from Mayo, he's just not HC material. As the Pats add talent, and win more games, Mayo being outcoached will remain. As for the O....agree with it, just wondered to our fraternal Pats crew, is it possible the HC puts the breaks on certain calls?

If we have more talent we'd b a good offense oline isn't good enough to make plays

Personally I would rather go back to the old system. I liked having a different identity than most other teams.

@ no it’s not everything comes back around. Just like the run game was dead and now it’s back. Brady just used elements of it to win a superbowl.

they will look like the team that played miami because the common theme all year has been better coaches rout the patriots.. rookie coaches or interim coaches we beat or appear competitive.. chicago was the outlier as their coach was a little worse than mayo lol
