I thought it would be hard to top the earlier video, which is one of my favorites, so was really pleasantly surprised that they did. Yes, the recording was crisper, but all the solos were just a bit better, if that's possible -- more intense in their passion and more mature, as you said. Austin blew me away.

This is the 'SO' update I was most looking forward to. This song will always be 'colored' by the SO judges' comments about Rob, and can hear Austin forgetting his words in the live performance video. Setting those aside, finally we get to hear a bit more from Chance. He's been mostly relegated to the background for the other updated versions. I'm also loving hearing one of my all-time faves of theirs and the fact it's a serious song. Time to step away from the comedic antics of recent videos. Agree as to the quality of the audio. Their 'official' video sounds a bit muted by comparison. This has an almost 'live' quality.

That was so beautiful! Have always loved this song when Home Free first did it on the "Sing Off" & then redid it a few years later. But I think this 3rd remake is my favorite version now.

it's great, I noticed, like you said Patrol, particularly with Austin and Tim, that it 'sits' better/nicer in their ranges their not sounding like they're having to hit the roof to get up there now

I suspect that all of them being married and discovering just how much those relationships (or discovering that relationship in Austin’s case) mean, they really have a deeper connection with the lyrics. From some things Austin has said, he has been working on being more restrained in his vocals by way of dynamics instead of his tendency to belt everything and, to my ears, simply sounds more mature with a deeper chest range. We’ve heard Tim’s vocal range increase over the years and, again to my ears, he seems more comfortable/confident singing in his baritone/low tenor range. I’m not sure that Rob’s voice could have gotten much better and Chance sounds great in both videos. Being who they all are, including Adam, I feel like they are always working at improving some portion of their vocals and performance. I’m pretty sure Austin still wears that shearling lined jacket, though!

So Chance joined HF in 2016 when they did the first video of Colder Weather 7 years ago, three years after the Sing Off. But, I do believe this is the only song HF has made two videos of with Chance in both versions. I agree with you their voices have matured, and their was subtle improvements in their overlays and note changes, with Rob's final note of the song slightly different than the first video. I like both versions, but Austin's newest performance is definitely more dynamic. Thanks Lyle for doing both versions for comparison. It was quite fun.

Subtle,but notably great changes. Their voices are more mature, and they’ve become so close as band members and friends. They’re comfortable with each other. I thing their voices are getting better as they age. I could just be a biased Home Fry, though. Nah! That’s not it! Lol

Our boys have grown up! The difference in their voices is the maturity over the years. It all gets better and better! Thanks, Lyle, for this song. What a wonderful song this remains. Every time I not only hear it, but I feel it too! Every part of every member is amazing! The video is also so beautifully done. Yet a tear flows down my cheeks. My partner also cannot be present at Christmas, which is also his birthday. Or actually was. Because on January 12, 2019, he died unexpectedly at the age of 60.

This was an upgrade version, I Hear less Austin in the background and hear more Chance. IMO Chance's voice brought a little more warmth to the song . Don't get me wrong I totally love Austin's voice, well all their voices. Anyway great reaction

The first version is actually from 7 years ago and is not from The Sing Off, despite the video’s title. It has Chance both times so it’s after Chris left in 2016.

Lyle, I just saw them in concert in Panama City Beach, Florida. They were in an outdoor theater and they sang this song and they sound as good as their new video. All their songs sounded great. They were fantastic and they sure kicked of the Holiday Season. Love your channel❤

The only thing I would change is adding the actual Sing Off version. The first one shown is a music video done after the Sing Off which threw me for a second as your video description had me anticipating the earlier version. I agree with so many other who noted the continued maturation of HF's sound and the production values have also progressed. Great reaction as usual!!

Interested to hear your reaction and which you would like best! One thing I noticed is you referring back to the sing off, but the original version you showed was recorded in 2016. 3 years later ... remember Chance had joined the group, replacing Chris Rupp .. so not 9 or 10 years between these two versions. I think I actually prefer the older version? It sounds 'warmer' and a little more morose maybe? Love Adam Rupp's new sounds though. I still think they should have changed it around more though so you aren't comparing like for like ... did Rob sound a little better or worse, did Austin etc?! I think they missed an opportunity to give Chance a (long overdue) main vocal as his voice is perfect for this song and restricting him to the one same verse is disappointing. Remember, they swapped Rob for Austin to sing the lead in 'I want Crazy' and could have done the same here, allowing Chance to sing more of the lead ... maybe swap his and Rob's parts! Enjoying your reviews!

NO SWEETER SOUND ! Smooth, satin like Mid Tenor of ROB ...... grounded by Tim's Bass and baritone lead .... Austin's High Tenor and Chances cool as mountain air baritone / tenor solo makes for 4/5ths of this ensemble .... Combining the bass from Tim and Chance gives the newer version a richness and depth that the earlier one didn't have. It's also lovely to hear Adam on the harmonies in the beginning of the song.
