Oset electric trials bikes are fun! But not just for trials, I had a blast cruising around town with Clay finding rocks, logs, and trails. He has never ridden trials or an electric bike so I tried to help him out a bit and show him how fun they can be. He rode the 20.0R and I rode the 24.0R. For more info check out www.osetbikes.com and buy them through www.rypusa.com

Finally a video that shows me what the Oset can do, in the hands of a pro. I got my Oset 24 about 5 months ago, in British Columbia Canada. I love it, and allready knew it was capable of more than my 50 year old body could do, lol. Best weapon ever on mountain bike trails, and I rode mountain bikes on the Vancouver North Shore for 2 decades.

There really isn't much owner feedback on these bikes anywhere, and think this video is the best on KZbin so far. There is nothing else out there like the Oset24. I love mine, it's everything I have wanted in a bike for many years, but didn't exist until this year First of all, it's silent, so you can ride it almost anywhere. It only goes about 20 miles an hour, but can do that up hill. It only weighs about 100 pounds, and will fit in the back of my Honda Element lol, I live close to the Canadian Pacific Trials club riding area, and have played around on the exposed rock and stuff with the moto trials guys, they think it's cool but think it needs a clutch lol. I like not needing a clutch, and having both brakes on the bars. I can't wait to see more from Americas best trials rider thrashing on the bike, and seeing how it holds up for you

How is the suspension on the Oset 24R compared to a traditional trials bike? I'm looking to get into trials and am coming from enduro / harescramble. Additionally, how do you find the lack of clutch? For hopping up sheer wall faces you would typically rev up and launch yourself up the wall. On an electric bike, is the technique the same due to the instant power delivery?
@PatSmage
@PatSmage 5 жыл бұрын
They really don’t compare. A traditional bike has basically no limits, it can do more than pretty much anyone can handle. The Oset is a super fun bike, but consider it more of a play bike for trials. It is MTB suspension and brakes, and hybrid frame/wheels. Sure it can be ridden at lower level club events, but it not a competitor to a gas bike with the same skilled rider. But you can ride it more places and might be more fun! The lack of maintenance is nice too. No clutch is strange for sure. It is more of a bicycle technique, roll into obstacles and use your body a lot since you can’t build any inertia. Different but fun!

@PatSmage
@PatSmage 7 жыл бұрын
yrurags thanks! It is close to what I expected. It is not a competitor to a full size gas bike. More of a fun play bike that can be used for training or just to have a good time.

Pat, do you use the brakes as sort of a clutch? Drag the brakes with a little throttle, then release and throttle it more? Like a zap but using the brakes instead of a clutch.
@markmccall6273
@markmccall6273 4 жыл бұрын
I suspect that would burn out the electric motor in time??? The only way you're going to get the trials launch that we're all hoping for, you need to spin up a flywheel and then have a clutch. Some newer E trials bikes have introduced flywheel and clutch so that they perform more like gas bikes. So, waaaay better for competing and sudden bolts of power, but burn the battery out waaay quicker also. V interested to see how Pat answers your question though.
@PatSmage
@PatSmage 4 жыл бұрын
I have tried that, but don't find it very effective. I think you can get just as much power by being quick with your wrist on the throttle. Like Mark said, without a flywheel you aren't building any power, just feels like you are working the motor harder.
@youtubemusiconly5249
@youtubemusiconly5249 4 жыл бұрын
@@PatSmage Thanks for the tip. I've been conditioned to not have a quick throttle wrist on my gas bikes to prevent bogging. On my Oset 24 when approaching an obstacle at low speed and using my usual not so quick throttle, there would be a delay getting the front end up, throwing off my timing. I tried using a quick wrist and now I can get the front wheel up exactly when I want. No bog with electric!

Hey Pat, I'm an adult 5'7" 170 lbs. I'm ready to get an Oset but I can't decide between the 20 and 24. I'm thinking my kids will be able to ride the 20 sooner (in like 3 years), and the 20 lithium is still cheaper than the 24. If I am just in my backyard practicing my balance, wheelies, and basic trials, can I get away with buying the 20, or will I wish I had I gone with the 24?

finnaly a cool trial bike movie to watch, not that usual climbing 5cm rocks and descending 20cm, how the transition of a trial eletric bike to a dirt bike feels,, since you do not have clutch?
@PatSmage

Having no clutch is very strange. The techniques are closer to bicycles in how you can hit things. It’s tough to get used to but lots of fun!

i am seriously thinking on buying a trials bike, want to get that technique to enduro! but would u recoomend eletric or gas trial bike, gas bikes are expensivier, but in portugal there's almost no 2nd hand eletric bike for sale, and gas trial bikes are around 1k but years 1998-2002, which are kinda old, are they worth it?

Hi there! Awesome video, btw: I just bought a 20.0 R, and was wondering what kind of speed/power/response setup you would recommend me to use, for mostly wheelies/playing around practice. Been using all on full but it doesnt really feel awesome, plus the battery empties quickly. Would really appreciate an answer! Thanks
@PatSmage
@PatSmage 6 жыл бұрын
Oliver Berntzon thanks! I run mine all on full. But I have found it slightly easier for most people to have the response backed off a bit. I have been running lipo batteries in the 20 and see much longer run times and lighter weight. Have fun!

Good question, I don't think I have run it until its completely dead. Most people say around 2 hours of normal riding but it is so dependent on riding style, weight, and terrain.

@PatSmage
@PatSmage 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure on ride time, this video was filmed on one charge though. I would guess around 2 hours depending on your riding style. I did a local event of 8 sections and 4 loops on sandy hills and finished on one charge also. It is very different from a gas bike. It is a mix of a bicycle and motorcycle. More of a play bike than a competitor to a gas bike. Tons of fun and can help learn some technique and balance, although lots of things are different with a clutch and flywheel.
