+Chaos ZT i love his scenes, i think there's a scene later on in the series where Patsy and another guy go to a starbucks to try and get protection money from them, only to learn a corporation is more greedy than a mobster, and as they leave patsy goes, "it's all over for the little guy" or that could be someone else but it had such a Patsy vibe to it.

Yeah Patsy was becoming quite the Goombata or whatever they call it ! As I stated on other threads , it is funny how Soprano fans just woke up one day and realized what a liability and a psycho Bully piece of shit Paulie Walnuts was . I might add to that that as it went along we came to realize what an asset Patsy was Of course i know this is fiction and both characters were well written and well acted by Dan Grimaldi and Tony Sirico !
@mmcneil7775 жыл бұрын
Interesting Patsy used the word cinematic. He sensed Gloria was a drama queen. He read her like a book.
@colderplasma4 жыл бұрын
well i mean tony obviously told patsy all about her. like he told her to shut the fuck up before she even said a word because he already knew she was going to start mouthing off.

@Wermhats Wormhat why would he do that, he gave patsy a bump up to captain and his son was gonna marry his daughter. My guess is Phil outsourced the murder of Tony to somebody he could rely on, when he got killed couldn't call the guy off, or Butchie did it to get of owing Janice money for the hit on Bobbi.

Yeah, Harrison. He was the one who ordered the hit on Tony (that DID happen at the end - the story starts right at the beginning of Tony's reign as boss, and ends with his death). I think this scene warns us of the end. "In the end, it'll be my face you'll see. Not Tony's". He probably is the boss in the end (not Tony, who's dead). And Tony's death wasn't cinematic - just sudden darkness.

Holy shit, Dan Grimaldi is a master. He's got the sociopath role down to a tee. Notice how he half-smirks and raises his eyebrows, while keeping the eyes completely dead as he threatens Gloria to death in a very gruesome manner. All this without raising his voice, and neither saying too much or too little, just enough to get the point across. Masterclass acting. Patsy Parisi is an incredibly dangerous guy because of how unassuming he is, but once he has you against the wall, you see exactly what's behind his "mask".

What I love is not just that Patsy read her love for the drama by saying it won't be cinematic but how he delivers it. Theres a laid back almost tired way in which he delivers it that says he's had to kill many times before. There's a head tilt semi squinty look he gives as shakes his head no coupled with an almost empathic smile. I could almost believe he saw her shift to terror and felt a little bad... maybe. There's so much to read into this scene.

The way Gloria is shaking, nodding her head and just sits there helplessly quiet. Such an incredible performance by Annabella Sciorra. She genuinely looks terrified. Look at her trembling as Patsy gets out of the car. She looks scared shitless. If you didn't know it was a TV show you'd think this was real. And Patsy was such an incredibly intimidating guy. He acts normal. Never raises his voice. Not even with a .45 pointed at a lady threatening her life. You'd never know how dangerous he was if you met him outside the social club.
@mr.kjh69374 жыл бұрын
This is by far one of the most well executed scenes, hands down. Notice how in the beginning you’ve got Patsi, a middle/older aged gentleman (and unsuspecting appearance) posing as a potential customer who’s looking to get some on the side with an attractive looking female salesperson who doesn’t particularly give into his advances. He makes her believe that she’s got the upper hand in the situation thinking that she can just brush him off, and BOOM! Plot twist, it’s a set up and he’s there on a job to set her straight, incredible how she turned 180 in less than a second into a scared vulnerable being who knows she screwed up. Hard to say which is better, Patsi’s deceptive appearance or Gloria’s sudden intimidation. Either way great acting!!!!!!

You just knew she would never mess with Tony again after this. Even though she was crazy, she was scared shitless of Patsy.
@Daveyengland4 жыл бұрын
yoyo2ma - hit the nail on the head. She wasn’t scared of Tony (in fact she welcomed the chance to be melodramatically killed by him, I guess), but she WAS scared of Patsy... shit got real in this scene and she took the easy way out, rather than have to face Patsy again.

BIG error in this scene -- when they're driving, they're sitting in an E Class. When they pull into the parking lot, they're sitting in an S Class. In fact, the parking lot scene was obviously shot in two different takes also -- Patsy is still in the E Class and Gloria is in the S Class. They changed the headrest on Patsy's seat to match Gloria's but you can see that the seats themselves are different. Patsy's seat is the piped leather of the E Class and Gloria is in the S Class, with tufted wraparound leather. This means Patsy and Gloria were in different cars, so it was two separate takes, likely on different days, which got spliced together for the final cut. Great scene, but very noticeable.

It's interesting how we as a viewer are totally fine with her being threatened like that. She has a lot of personal issues, but for us she is a threat to Tony. For us she got what she deserved.

@menzoznem2 жыл бұрын
@@curranfrank2854 yeah same. I guess stating we are totally fine with it is a bit too strong. There's definitely a satisfaction in how Glorio gets threatened here, but her character is just so tragic that we feel for her as well. It brings multiple layers to the characters and the scene. It's all so believable, violent and tragic. I think believability is key in a series, but we rarely see that nowadays.
@martyjohnstone82262 жыл бұрын
Totally dude! The first time I watched it I had an unshakeable sympathy for Tony regardless, and when Gloria was introduced I found her annoying and unhinged, this was as a teenager. After rewatching as a 30+ it was plain to see the difference - Tony was an incorrigible, narcissistic crook who cared only for himself, Gloria as unhinged as she was was deeply hurt and scarred, just wanting a release from her pain. She is far more redeemable than Tony, albeit with much therapy and work on her mental health.
@hungram51702 жыл бұрын
Great writing creates sympathy for otherwise unsympathetic characters. Nearly every character in this show is some kind of douchebag. People feel bad about Bobby getting shot, or Gloria getting a visit from Patsy, or Meadow walking in just in time to see Tony killed. Dead mobsters, a homewrecker and a mob apologist-daughter. All scumbags.
@korawitbuttramee6182 жыл бұрын
I can see people who had to deal with a clingy, melodramatic, or straight-up psycho ex side with Tony here since they would find him relatable. In fact, making a character your audience can relate to is a great way to make them invested in your story.

My favorite Patsy scene. He shows just how well he understands the nature of the situation. Patsy, without having met her, understands Gloria’s complex, twisted psychology. He knows he doesn’t need to make her afraid of dying, he needs to make her afraid of HOW she would die. Tony won’t be involved, you won’t get some suicidal catharsis from making him kill you. It won’t be some big show to display your suffering to the world. You’ll be another crime statistic, your last moments spent with patsy, not with tony or yourself. “It won’t be cinematic” Genius
