Patti tore this song up and although the arrangement may be too a vanguard for some listeners, she was completely and totally vocally on point. I believe that in order for a listener to understand the crazy melodramatic way this song was performed, they have to understand Patti's love for her husband at that time. She loved him to death during this era, although they divorced later. That coupled with the fact that patti is simply a high octane performer makes for a highly dramatized stage performance that was dripping with soul and passion.

The original version was written in 1981 for Linda Clifford; who then recorded it in 1982, for her album I’ll Keep on Loving You. Her touch was sort of different as well. But it fit her life’s story, coming out of a bad relationship to a new refreshing one that two composers came up with the song after seeing her happiness. I love all three versions because they give me three vibes. All three are phenomenal. Patti played with the melody her way and I still recognized the song wholeheartedly. She did justice to it! Everyone has different tastes. Doesn’t make it bad. And awards nor accolades make someone. It’s the unseen and unheard of things that truly make you.
