The calcium carbonate is my favorite as well. I tried all of those ingredients as well. I love chalk paint. So I had to find a cheaper way of painting. Learned how to make my own. If I want a grit consistency. I use the baking soda and paint. It definitely makes it feel like concrete. I like to use it on vases now and then.

Thanks for sharing your test. I really like the Calcium Carbonate. It is hard to find non-food grade here in Canada and the other is very expensive on Amazon. I found the cheapest at a local wine making supply store! Benjamin Moore paints just had a sale of their testers - 50% off - I bought lots of colors!

I don’t do big projects, but I just grind up sidewalk chalk (calcium carbonate). What I like is that since it comes in colors I can match it to my paint and don’t have to worry about it lightening up on me. For black I just mix red yellow and blue chalk into black paint.(I just discovered black sidewalk chalk exists)

@@PattiJGood the easiest way i have found to grind it is to just scrape it in a mesh sieve. Just falls into a bowl. Much easier to clean up than my old coffee grinder.

I love this video! I had no idea you could make chalk paint. You picked the perfect black that works well with cool or warm tones. And I love your measuring cups 😁 I would love to see a video of you using the DT resin. Maybe an abstract painting? Or geode look. I was thinking about that gold/ silver/cooper leaf streds I have seen at DT and some glitter and sand. I have an image in my head but not sure how to execute. I wonder if you could dump acrylic paint in layers on the center of a canvas and then use a blow dryer to make colors bleed together. But I think the resin would have to be mixed into acrylic paint. Idk 😅

Patti, buen día. Pinté la puerta de un mueble de cocina con chalk paint usando un rodillo que es como de terciopelo. (Es la primera vez que pinto con ésta pintura). Pero me quedaron marcas, como jazpeado y necesito que la superficie me quede lisa, porque es de cocina integral. Así que me decidí lijar.Mi pregunta es: debo pintar de nuevo sin problema alguno, si es con brocha o rodillo y qué tipo. Gracias por tus respuestas. Saludos desde México ❤❤

Deberías poder agregar otra capa de pintura. Debe usar un lavado de pintura con tiza después de que la pintura se seque para darle un acabado agradable que sea fácil de limpiar.

From my experience, calcium carbinate is best. Very smooth, not gritty. Baking soda and plaster are gritty, bit sands well. But I will use what I have on hand.

You can grate cheap white chalk or cheap colored chalk from dollar stores to get calcium carbonate.Please wear a mask while doing this

Plaster of Paris is not worth it. You have to paint quickly bc it hardens fast and you can’t even save your leftovers. I prefer calcium carbonate.
