I will be sad to see the eventual dismantling of the original Patullo Bridge after the new bridge is complete. It is an iconic symbol of New Westminster. I remember 74 years ago at age 5 when my family first drove me across the old bridge back when Surrey was basically a rural area. Oh yes, the Pattulo Bridge was a toll bridge back in 1950. My grandfather was on the construction crew of the original bridge now the rail bridge back in 1903. He earned enough money to bring his wife and two children from the old country to settle here.

I've always wondered about the pronunciation of "Patullo'. Why we say "pa-tell-o" instead of "pa-tool-o". Is that the Italian pronunciation? I know the bridge was named after the Premier of BC back in the 1930s. My Dad said he was corrupt.
