Eddie Van Halen was dead-on correct when he tried to get Smythe to front VH post-DLR. Can you imagine it? She would have killed in that lineup.

I saw this when it first aired. No one knew she had this in her. I sat there watching, absolutely floored by what I was hearing. To this day, it's the best musical performance I've ever seen on TV. I wish I could meet her, just to shake her hand and thank her for this.

Oh my...!!! What was that?!?! I am floored! That was AMAZING!!! Not only did she pull off Led Zeppelin, I think she channeled some Stevie Nicks and took it up another 11 notches! Her voice! Her stage presence! Her command and timing was INCREDIBLE! The BEST live performance by Patty Smyth that I have ever seen! I've got to sit down and catch my breath...

From what I watched far away here in Australia, there was one performance that was at least close to equal and that was Tom Jones when making a comeback. I thought oh Tom Jones here we go, I was naive. He blasted out a vocal that I hadn’t heard many if any do. It’s soul and power. Tom had it. Patty had it,,.. Paul Rodgers has it but there’s only a handful of people on earth that could have ever pulled it off. That was incredible and once every few months I listen again. As a kid listening to the warrior on radio you could here her power. She is the warrior.

So many female singers from the late 70's & 80's & 90's with great vocals talent are not as known as they should be. Lee Aaron, Holly Woods (Lead singer of the band Toronto), Karen Lawrence (Lead singer of a band called 1994), Gudren Laos (Lead singer of a band called Laos), Chrissy Steele, Fiona Flanagan, Chrissy & Lyndsay Hammond (Co-lead singers in a band called Cheetah), Lana Lane, Sandi Saraya (Lead singer of a band called Saraya), Lorraine Lewis (Lead singer of a band called Femme Fatale, Gill Montgomery (Lead singer of a Band called The Amorettes), Steffanie Borges, the ladies that have fronted all female rock band Vixen. Thankfully the internet provides a window for us to view these talented ladies through and get to know more about their vocals talent.

I'm 58 and just now, due to early retirement due to disability, I now have time to learn more and more about Rock-n-Roll. I heard a song from a CD my wife had. The CD was a compilation of some of the best performances from the David Letterman show. The song I heard was "Who Do You Love?", by Patti Smith. But she just "told" me the name of the song and the artist so I didn't see the Spelling. So to make a long story short, I found both Patti & Patty, and the somewhat unusual thing is that they're both performances on the David Letterman Show and the songs have a similar ring to their titles... or is it just me. I'm Glad to have found Patti and Patty and now I have 2 more Great Artists to research and collect. When I was growing up in the 70s I was more interested in having fun and meeting girls and even though at the time I taught myself how to play the guitar, not like an expert, but enough to bang out some chords to some decent Rock, 50's thru the 70s... and of course some of the most loved riffs of the day like Smoke On The Water, 25 or 6 to 4, etc... I didn't know the Bands real well. I was very bad with names of Bands and Artists. It's a brain blockage, a birth defect. I'm having a Ball now learning about the music, the histories of All there is Rock-N-Roll and it's... excuse my Brooklynage Dialect, but it's just F'ckn Awesome! And Awesome is too much watered down these days to be real descriptive for me but it's all I got at the moment. God! Boy! I missed a lot back then. But I remember one thing, Pink Floyd and Chicago were like extraterrestrial bands or something. It's like, in my mind, there were all these Great Bands, Really! NOT possible to compare. They all brought something fantastically, astounding, and amazingly Unique, Crazy Unique... to the Creativity Party... but Chicago and Pink Floyd, I don't know about you, if you grew up back then, or your friends, but those two bands... man, they were from a totally different unique Separate quantum physics parallel universe kinda thing. NOBODY could figure them out. ...and neither did the Radio People, DJ's, Critics, Music/Record companies, No-Body! If you read about their histories and the history of Rock and Radio of the era, you'll see... they were F'ckn Different! The "Business" didn't know what to do with them, how to classify them, how to promote, market, get their stuff on 45s/singles... Is it just me?! Can there be any argument about that? I'm totally Open to learning. And I just happen to be the most non-confrontational guy on the planet. I was born with heavy Bipolar Disorder, the real thing, not the silly nonsense they diagnose everybody with these days... My Psych Doc says, now everybody's got Bipolar (BP) just a short while ago it was ADD for Adults and ADHD for kids, and everyone was an Adderall, but now BP has taken the lead. Everyone who's "moody" gets a BP diagnosis. BP is Cycles, not some moody shit like PMS or a glitchy thyroid. Ooops! Speaking of Bipolar and glitchy, I guess I'm off on a tangent. Where was I? Oh Yeah! Learning about Bands and Artists and such. It's So Great! It's like everything that was old is New again. I'm meeting Ozzy Osbourne for the first time and it's such a blast. Finding Patty Smith is enlightening and enrichening as well. I just invented that word just for her. Ok! I'm Gone! Thanks for the Video. I Feel Great! Listen-Learn-Rock! One more thing: Life is Waaayyy TOO Short. Avoid all the negative dramas of Life. Fill your moments with things that are positive, things that are Great. When things start to get ugly, even if it's only in your head, envision or put on some Vinyl, crank up some Rock!
