I like Tkachuk but those were blindside hits with no intention to play the puck. You can see Kassian's neck snap to the side. His brain was definitely rocked from that first time. Tkachuk didn't have to rock him twice with those kind of hits. He was looking to do something dirty. Refs weren't protecting Kassian or giving Tkachuk a warning. So he has to take things into his own hands while Tkachuk was not owning up. That's all on Tkachuk for not being a man and taking what he's giving.

@wes6244 4 жыл бұрын
Blindside hits aren't illegal, but I do agree there's a bit of charging there. Not enough to warrant supplemental discipline but a penalty for sure, imo. Positioning also doesn't matter in this case. The onus is only on the player if the victim is showing numbers and/or tight to the boards. Just because "charging" is too ill-defined, like many other rules, there will always be controversy.

5 strides. Turns around and hits Kassian more in the back than anywhere else. Kassian was being pushed into the boards by Giordano while facing the boards the entire time. The refs need to protect the players in a vulnerable position. Tkachuk is a coward who turtles knowing he got away with charging/boarding. The first one was borderline aiming for the head. Kassian's head whipped around pretty good on that one.

"Predatory hits" ALL hits are predatory by definition. I don't understand how people like yourself can say hitting isn't allowed but fighting is. You don't like 'predatory' hits, but like somebody grabbing and beating someone who wasn't ready. Talk about code and honour, until it goes against your beliefs, then throw it out the window. Both actions are the same, but you're justifying one to spite the other.

"Charging is a penalty in ice hockey. Rule 42 of the NHL rulebook dictates that charging "shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A 'charge' may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice."[1] The infraction may warrant any severity of penalty or combination of penalties as the officials deem fit, including a major plus a game misconduct, or suspension if the infraction results in injury to the opposing player." I think he was aiming for the head, but he did make contact with his shoulder first. The carry through from the angle definitely followed into his head and I would go as far to say it's borderline intent to injure. The best point I thought Biz brought up was, this was not a play at the puck. Tkachuk had no intention of getting the puck or stopping the play. That is a dangerous play and I don't understand how the refs wouldn't make a call, even to just settle the game down....like reffing 101

Ryan Scherbluk my guess is it’s because Tkachuk lost his helmet early, and there was potential to head injury both when he threw him down on the ice, and those punches at the end. Looks a lot worse. Otherwise I’d agree. 2 minutes in the box and call it square.

Ryan Scherbluk which hit? The earlier hit had head contact, but it wasn’t targeted. Tkachuk hit the shoulder first than glanced off and into his head. That one should have been called. That on just before the fight was shoulder to shoulder.

Love the Biz, but he's wrong with comparing it to if Johnny or Monny got hit like that. Of course Flames fans wouldn't want their stars to be hit like that, but Tkachuk didn't hit McDavid or Yamamoto like that, he hit their BIG. So if you want to compare, that 'd be like Draisaitl hitting Lucic borderline legally and then having Lucic rag-doll him around.

Bissonette is spot on. The NHL still draws because there is so much corporate and disposable personal income out there. But the minute this economy slows, people are not going to pay to watch the product currently being put forth. Hockey needs the rivalries and the fights to keep people engaged, particularly during the regular season. The NHL has gone too far in it's legislation against fighting and allowing the players to police the game themselves. The NHL needs rivalries like the Battle of Alberta.

Kassian's head snapped around on the first hit. Tkachuk left his feet slightly, missed the shoulder, and got him in the neck. Yeah, that should be an Oiler PP. The second hit was clean. Suspension for Kassian? No. Fighting major, game misconduct; sets up an exciting rematch. Yes, Kassian SHOULD be mad at the refs for no call on the first hit, and yes, Tkachuk got the rag-doll pounding he deserved for not defending himself.

Hard to figure out Sportnet/ Rogers. They overpay on their NHL Right deal (they could have got it for probably half the money they spent). Then to save a couple of bucks they move on from Doug MacLean and Nick Kypreos. So now on all their platforms they bring in more of Todd Warriner (who I really like), more of Brian Burke, and lately a lot more of Paul Bissonnette. I really don't think those 3 are working for free, so what was the point of moving on from Kypreos and MacLean?
