I agree with Burke, Kassian shouldn't have been suspended. Tkatchuk can make runs, Kassian can stand up for himself, and the Battle of Alberta is reignited. Dumb suspension. Doesn't change how anybody is gonna play, and doesn't protect any players.

Problem with Tkachuk is his attitude. He acts like he can do whatever he wants. He charged, lit up Kassian in a predatory way and then thinks, "it's just hockey whatever." He's actually not that tough and not as great a player as all the media think. He's a good story because he's a character is why they cover it so much. He's going to get hurt playing like that and no one will feel sorry for him. I won’t, and I’m not an Oilers fan at all.

Note) Charging is the action where a player takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent. This includes skating or leaving one's feet (jumping) into the opponent to deliver a check, accelerating through a check for the purpose of punishing the opponent, or skating a great distance for the purpose of delivering a check with excessive force.

jared neufeld Note) according to the OFFICIAL NHL RULE BOOK Rule 42 - Charging 42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner. Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. A minor, major or a major and a game misconduct shall be imposed on a player who charges a goalkeeper while the goalkeeper is within his goal crease. A goalkeeper is not “fair game” just because he is outside the goal crease area. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with a goalkeeper. However, incidental contact, at the discretion of the Referee, will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. Absolutely nothing about a specific number of strides.

I want lots of hitting. I want lots of hard hits. I want fighting. I even want more fighting. I want hockey to be an intense game. Hockey is at it's best when it's intense. But I want consistent rules. To me the 1st hit on Kassian should have been a penalty at least and maybe even a small suspension. Tkachuk Charged, hit kas in the head, and left his feet. I'm mostly fine with the other hits. But everything I've seen from previous suspensions tells me that a predatory, charging, hit to the head, while airborne should be a suspension. I want lots of fighting. But I understand that players aren't obligated to fight if they don't want to. Laying a good clean hard hit shouldn't necessitate a fight. But laying multiple predatory borderline-legal hits on the same player is basically picking a fight. so I don't blame kassian for what he did and I don't think he deserves a suspension.

If the supplementary discipline guy from the 90's said it's a charge it's probably a charge in today's game especially. I have no problem with any of it. I feel like tkachuk is a bit of a rat but I don't think that was what this was about at all. I'm just surprised how many people who "love" hockey but are up in arms about Kas responding that way. Sticking up for yourself or others after a big hit clean or not has always been a part of hockey. Hell you couldn't get too close to The Great One without Marty jumping all over you whether you touched Gretzky or not. Better to just let him get beat up then have Kas hunting him the next few matchups and possibly seriously injuring the kid 🤷‍♂️

I been watching Hockey since before they "had" to wear helmets... The only thing I did not like, was that Kas did not stop fighting when the ref's jumped in. You don't hit a player that is down on the ice, and you stop fighting when the ref grabs you. That's respect for the game.

Both are worthy NHL players, Kassian is correct, he will get served. Obviously this has been blown up, and other players are going to catch on to the way he plays and probably find it sensible to wear him down. Unfortunately, it’s a dirty game. Until the day the NHL removes contact - it won’t change. And, it’s the $$$ that has kept it in. This game isn’t all about skill, and I’m not sure what the average condition of retired players is, if that came out, maybe people would be the wiser.

Next oil flame game should have both kassian n thachuk on the opening faceoff n after the puck drops have them immediately drop gloves n solve it man to man take their penalties with no major penalties or game misconducts.

Why did Kass get suspended. Those were clean hockey plays. He was merely picking up a guy who couldn’t stand on his skates. Tkachuk just kept falling.

Sad thing is Tkachuk is a great player who can and should just play hockey. He’d do more for his team by playing clean hockey than playing dirty hockey. It wears on your team in the long run and players will eventually start telling him to quit with the BS. When that happens the Flames will be in real trouble.

Buy this stupid logic then, Lucic and Rinaldo can jump mcdavid and German fake tough guy leon and pound them, or even last game when leon put the elbow up when Bennett hit him, Bennett should have snapped and caved his face in, or mcdavid should have been taken care of to as he had crossed checked Tkachuk into the board after takening several "crossovers".

@@garys2157 yeah, that's right, you got my meaning! Tkachuk delivered a dirty hit, and wouldn't stand up for it. Even Malkin takes a fight after delivering a dirty hit, rather than allow frustrations to boil over and have other players on his team pay the price. Don't do the crime if you aren't willing to do the time. Tkachuk is a puke and a punk.

If there was anything wrong with either of those 2 hits they are hypocrites for not removing Scott Stevens from the HOF. No head target, Kassian had the puck, Tkachuk COASTED both times into contact so no acceleration. Watch Basketball if you don’t like big boy games.

4.17 goals per game isn’t that impressive over 24 games. The lightning averaged 4.55 per game over the same number of games last season, and they still ended up with 3.95 for the season. But I guess they had to make leafs fans feel like their team is a contender

A Tkachuk like player on Toronto now or the last few years, playing against Boston. We would've won both those series'! He would've been that guy to get Marchand and Chara off their games and looking over their shoulders whenever he would've been on the ice! Then and now, they don't have to worry about this with this Leafs team. Why if they play Boston AGAIN. They will AGAIN lose that series
