Paul goes into detail describing the core idea of the gospel message, that we are saved by a system of faith and not by a system of law which the false teachers were promoting. (Galatians 2:11-21)

Your points on what Peter did was dangerous were spot on. He kept a man made law ( Jews referred to Gentiles as unclean or dogs) so Paul had to use the Torah to correct him and that was that we need to fear God not men. We fear God by keeping His commandments not fear men by keeping their commandments. The only authority Paul had to correct Peter was the scripture. Got Torah Got Truth

Paul used the gospel to correct Peter, not the Torah.

Peter - as far as we know from Scripture - remained a Torah- following believer in Messiah his whole life, just like Paul did The actions that he was rebuked for . . .are not found in the Torah. They are found in the Traditions or as Paul puts it - the "works of the law" - a technical term which defines the rules that let one be in or out of a group (cf. DSS). Just like the circumcision ceremony that Paul was railing against hyphen it is not the initiatory right to find Salvation and join with Israel Faith in Messiah is the only thing required to find Salvation as part of God's Israel - Yeah!!

If I'm under the law I'm making an attempt and I see that sometimes I win and sometimes I lose and sometimes I win and then three other times I lose that's pretty discouraging I got to keep trying I got to keep trying cuz you know the law thou shall not commit adultery, no impurities if I'm in Christ I have the same responsibility as a Christian man to have a pure mind and heart except now I'm doing it as an Act of Faith sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don't but everything I do is a way to say to God I believe I keep trying I believe I keep trying why because I love you Lord I failed five times out of seven well you know the two times I've succeeded Lord here it is because you're not going to judge me based on my perfection you're going to judge you're going to judge me based on my faith my faith continues to push me forward in making an effort to live a righteous life to tell the truth not to grumble at others.. Amen

@abt 27:38..I don't mean to be offensive or gross. But I have to say it to give the impact... I'm told that when the verse in Isaiah say " our righteousness is as filthy rags".. The filthy rags are refering to a woman's menstrual period..and the custom of dealing with that time for her.. And you can make the picture of it in the customs and dealings on that in those days. Forgive me for being gross. But I felt it needed to be mentioned to give the punch of the text.

Addressing the comments at 5:14 of the lecture, please consult Matthew 16:18: "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it," which are words directly from Jesus to Peter, who was his first chosen disciple with Andrew. Peter was also important enough to be present at the transfiguration. According to scripture, Christ build his earthly church on Peter, which was clearly believed and promulgated by many of the early Church Fathers, such as Tertullian. Petrine succession is clearly established by Matthew 16:18.

Apostolic succession was established by the Roman Catholic Church using Matthew16:18, however this in itself does not make it so.

@@bibletalktv The primacy of Peter is clearly established by Matthew 16:18, who is recognized as the first pope, establishing the concept of Petrine succession from Peter to Francis. Apostolic succession deals with the establishment of an earthly ministry to carry out Christ's work, which is mentioned multiple times in scripture: most notably Matthew 28:19-20. This theory states that the bishops represent an unbroken line to the apostles. If you believe in the inerrancy of scripture, which it appears that you do in your lectures, then it is difficult to argue against the Petrine theory established by Matthew 16:18.

Again, Matthew 16:18 cannot be used to establish Peter as the first pope. The grammar of the passage suggests the exact opposite conclusion. Jesus says to Peter (after Peter has acknowledged that Jesus is the Son of God), you are Peter (Greek word for stone or rock - Petros), and upon this rock (Greek word Petra - massive rock, boulder) I will build my church. Jesus uses a different word to indicate that the basis of His church will be the fact that He is the Son of God, not that Peter is the leader of the church. We don't confess Peter when we are baptized, we confess Christ (Acts8:37). Peter is not the rock the church is built upon, Jesus is. Also, if you read the book of Acts you quickly see that Peter served as a leader of the early church in concert with the other apostles. The best example is in Acts15:1-29 where the church was dealing with a problem and the Apostles along with the elders of the church discussed and resolved the issue. You will note that Peter is not portrayed as the leader but one of the leaders. Catholic historians and theologians make the argument for papal lineage back to Peter but the New Testament as well as early church history, in my opinion, does not.

@@bibletalktv (1) Again, if you believe in the inerrancy of scripture, which it appears that you do, then Matthew 16:18 clearly establishes the Primacy of Peter, which is difficult to dispute if one does an unbiased exegesis of the passage and does not attempt to find something that simply isn’t there. (2) The Petros/Petra argument, used by some non-Catholics, has been summarily rejected not only by Catholic scholars but also Protestant Greek scholars Joseph Thayer and D.A. Carson, who have explained that in first century Koine Greek the words "petros" and "petra" meant the same thing: namely, "rock." In Koine Greek, small stone would have been written as lithos. Also, in Aramaic, the word "Kepha" is the word for rock and would have been used twice because there are no grammatical issues with gender regarding nouns. This argument is a red herring. (3) If Christ did not hold Simon, his first disciple, in such high regard, then why does he change his name to Peter in the first place if not to build his church on a solid foundation -- "a rock"? In Matthew 10:2, Peter is the first apostle listed. Peter is present at the transfiguration, which obviously shows his importance among the disciples. Peter was singled out by Christ and elevated. (4) Peter is the disciple who declares that Jesus is the messiah, which leads to Jesus building his church upon Peter (Matthew 16:13-20). It is obvious that as the leader of the disciples, he was the one who steps forward to proclaim Christ as the messiah, which leads to Christ conferring on Peter the keys to the kingdom and establishing him as the “foundation rock” of the church. (5) The early Church Fathers clearly understood Peter as the rock upon whom Christ build his Church (Tatian the Syrian, Tertullian, The Letter of Clement to James, and Origen) just to name a few. Therefore, it is clear that Christ singled out Peter from the beginning of his ministry, had him present at a key event The Transfiguration, and proclaimed him as the "rock" upon whom he would build his church after Peter declared who Jesus was, which all clearly establishes the Primacy of Peter, which was understood and promulgated by the early Church Fathers.
