Amen to all that. Part of me wishes he had gone to Utd -- I'm certain his life would have turned out differently under a manager like Ferguson, and in a dressing room with Keane et al. Venables gave him too loose a leash, and I think he was lonely in London, so far from home.

@@jimmynich4791 I've seen some great players at Spurs. But only one genius - Gascoigne. By many miles the most gifted British footballer of my lifetime. My first season at the Lane was Hoddle's last with the club. Probably the best atmospheres I can remember were those European nights under Harry when Bale was simply unplayable.
@jimmynich47913 жыл бұрын
@@alistairhann2094 I remember going to the Inter Milan game where we won 3-0 in the Europa league, I think it was Bale's last season there, he scored a header in that game and played sensationally. I often think Spurs could've really done something if we managed to hold on to some key players a little bit longer, obviously when Real Madrid come calling it's difficult for any club. With Redknapp and Pochettino it was a case of managers Levy should've had more faith in, yeah we hit some really bad form under poch but his previous form should've granted him a bit more time, Levy had too high expectations for every season. Now it's just chaos and a different manager is favourite every few days, I think it might be Levy is expecting too much and doesn't like how much investment they think the team needs to meet his expectations.

Just 3 full seasons and one FA Cup. There are others who were more consistent, spent more time at the club and won more trophies. Cliff Jones comes to mind. Glenn Hoddle is another. Alan Gilzean. Jimmy Greaves. Ossie Ardiles. Dave Mackay. Ron Burgess...
