I did... to Aerosmith Live Bootleg and Nazareth... stood on my bed with my trippy mobiles and my black lights, music cranked. I could see everything, and when I finally could afford my first guitar, I just took off... and EVH's eruption had just debuted. I had started on an acoustic years before, but I was dabbling with RAM ON and Neil Diamond and J. Geils Live "blow your face out" .... Musta got lost

Some of the best advice EVER!! This man has wisdom beyond wisdom!! To be able to be effective in a band situation one has to NOT PAY SO MUCH ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES!! In almost EVERY MUSICAL SITUATION I have been in , to focus on the OTHER PLAYERS, THAT is the FIRST ingredient to creating musical magic!! Gilbert, is one of the most educational players in the game.

Fantastic interview - kudos to both Dom and Paul. Paul was at GIT when I was at PIT and I got to know him and some of the guys he jammed with, and he's right, it was an incredible time to be in LA/Hollywood. The hard rock music scene was blowing-up, and there were still a number of years before that scene would fizzle-out due to Seattle. I wonder if Paul still has any of his old spandex? ;)

Oh my gosh, I can sooo relate! I felt exactly the same way Paul did about 'Mary Had A Little Lamb' after I had started with classical guitar lessons as a child! Which I eventually ditched because I wanted to *rock* , so my dear mother gave me an electric guitar for Xmas and I then just taught myself how to play :-)) Anyway, this was fun to watch gentlemen! Thank you very much! :-)
@saltpeter74294 жыл бұрын
For years I didnt even know you could skip acoustic and just play metal if you want, no rules. I had the same story, guitar lessons at 8, marry had a little lamb etc... years later I met a guy at church of all places that said, if you want to play rock music, cut right to it, get an electric and go at it. And from there, I had fun playing what I wanted. MORAL: dont tell kids they have to learn the basic acoustic folk shit first as a rule. Who made up this rule? It's about freedom and sound. Have fun and play what you love.
