It hurts me to my core when I see fantastic, talented singers and lyricists like Paul, Jacqui and the rest of the band struggle to get heard and played on the radio. I think Paul is the John Betjeman of this generation and I just can't believe how someone from the same kind of background as me can turn into such a complete genius. This is a fantastic version of a fantastic song and Jacqui just makes the song her own.
@lyndseykramer9 жыл бұрын
I to am stunned that these two hugely talented lyricists struggle to get heared. I asked Paul about it online, sort of, I asked him why: The Beautiful South hadn't 'made it in the US'? He answered and said they had. However, such a talent as that should have made a much bigger impact? Paul is the John Betjeman of this generation, or near as damn it. So why do they not get the recognition? I just don't get it.

I discovered Beautiful South, a well preserved secret at least for norwegians by chance.. I heard "Dont merry her, have me" on radio and was curious to know who the singer was. Jacqui Abbott. My God!! I have now been through most records from the group and from their reunion. Paul Heaton is right. He discovered a Rolls Royce which had been covered for 11 years in the garage. She (an he) is a great singer, one of the greatest! With a voice similar to Karen Carpenters and Mama Cass (Cassandra Elliot). Loving Arms is a great song with a very original arrangement. (Salvation Army sound). Fine she is back where she belongs. And what a lovely personality and beauty.

What a treasure you both are -- a finer duo is hard to find! I remember when I heard the Housemartins for the first time (in Iceland) -- I was 17 and had just walked into a 'disco' with two good friends and 'Me and the farmer' was blasting -- and my legs had to move. Then later with TBS, you followed me through love, breakups, cosy evening sofa-moments and whatnots of everything :) Now in my 52nd year and currently in my second week of a Paul Heaton KZbin/iTunes deep dive -- I'm amazed by the fact how many of the (older) songs/lyrics went way over my head ... but maybe that isn't so strange for someone who wasn't aware of the situation in England and maybe didn't pick up on the language and lingo ---- but, to listen now, with my more experienced ears; and with good 9 years under my belt from living in Middlesbrough, the gravity of your work and storytelling is hitting home like never before! Poems is currently my absolute favourite song, what a treat for these ears! :) Anyway - much love and thanks for it all and all that's still to come :D
