I'm a Yank but I can certainly understand why Aussies are so proud of their countryman. I fondly remember watching Crocodile Dundee when it came out and loving it. Every documentary that I have seen reenforces the fact that when he is off screen, he is a true blue collar guy that would share a pint with you at the neighborhood dive and truly enjoy it.

First time I saw Crocodile Dundee my husband and I were visiting Melbourne. Another couple suggested we all go to see the movie. I have never felt so emotionally proud and patriotic as I did that day. The entire cinema gave it a standing ovation and no-one attempted to leave, it was electric. Paul Hogan is an amazing Australian and an amazing actor. His aussie humour and larrikan sarcasm make him even more endearing. ❤🇦🇺

@@ACitizenOfOurWorld Amen. He's probably still "the face" of Australia to many Americans. Practically no American knows who the head of state is down there, but I bet most born-and-raised Americans over 40 recognize his (1980s) face and can name the actor or his most famous character. Quite a few well-intentioned but idiotic Americans will think he IS the Australian head of state. He's phenomenally well-liked, if not loved, in the U.S. and a nostalgic reminder of better times (the 1980s).

What a genuine Aussie icon! Sexist and dated or not, the Paul Hogan show is still hilarious and still cracks me up. Such was the cultural impact of Crocodile Dundee overseas, where Australia and Australians were concerned, that when I was teaching in London in the 1990s I had kids in my class asking me if I knew him as if the character was a real person lol. Delvene Delaney is still such a beautiful, classy lady and very sad about John Cornell's Parkinson's disease, may he rest in peace.

This is excellent. He's one of the unique ones in history, not replicable. And unlike all our other 'exports' (apart from Olivia), he actually gave to the world and to Australia at the same time, rather than just being about bank and career. He is a cultural icon, without the Paul Hogan Show, we wouldn't have any of the detail of that era committed to tape. And without his willingness just to go places and be real, we wouldnt have the reputation Australian's have internationally, and we wouldn't have had the tourism boost. Like David Attenborough is an English treasure, Hogan is Australia's treasure.

As a UK 80's kid this film just blew everyone away, in those days you tended to rent videos and i remember in South Wales when this came out to rent i got into my first fight in school because my best mates mum ran the video shop and me and him kicked up such a fuss about being the first kids to watch it in our village that she "rented" it to us first and it turns out that the owner of the video shop had promised it to a kid who's birthday was on the same day as it was coming out to rent and his party was basically BBQ, cake, gifts and everyone to watch Crocodile Dundee in the living room... but the video shop owner was hardly there so my mates mum pleaded ignorance on the owners arrangement claiming she misheard him (years later we would discover she was having an affair with him so she had leverage that we were not aware of or could even understand at the time) and we got to see it first while the party had to make do with one of the Police Academy movies which most had seen before so it didn't go down well. In the end he found out what happened and he was a bit of a spoiled brat anyway so he choose to have a go at me in school because i was smaller than my best mate but it was a hilarious fight according to onlookers, i even threw a punch like a WWF wrestler by stomping my feet at the same time my punch connected so this film holds a lot of nostalgic memories and if i had to live my life again i'd still make sure i was one of the first kids in my village to see Crocodile Dundee.

@@rajkobjelica4905 I remember watching a doco on Jackie O where a friend was with her when she was approached in public by a fan. Jackie behaved very coldly and aloft so the friend asked her about it later on privately. Jackie basically put forward that if she did open up in public she wouldn't be able to get anything done because every one would want a piece of her. The reason a lot of stars like coming to Australia, although we're losing it these days, was because of the tall poppy syndrome. No way would an Aussie lower themselves enough to worship anyone, even God was only worshipped grudgingly........sometimes.

You're a bloody Legend Hoges. As an Aussie living in Dallas, Texas I constantly get asked to do Dundee's "That's not a knife.... this is a knife" on a weekly basis. Paul worked on the Sydney Harbor Bridge with my grandfather and knew Hoges pretty well before he became a star. I can still remember pop telling me "Hey mate, I used to work with Paul when we were building the Bridge" when I was a kid. I'm 51 this August and his voice still rings in my head saying those words. He had other stories about his mate Hoges 'the funny bugger' but I've forgotten them all now. I'd love to actually meet up with Paul in the States and ask him if he remembers my Pop. But I'm just happy to be an Aussie larikin kicking it with my beautiful American wife in Dallas. Thanks for giving me a great line to say at parties Hoges, it never gets old and always gets plenty of laughs from all that hear me say it in me Aussie tongue. Loved watching you as a kid on the Paul Hogan Show with Strop and the always stunning Delvene Delainey. Love ya mate.

I spent a week in Perth, Australia and I have to tell you-the Aussies are GREAT people. Just full of life. Out of all the countries I went to while in the Navy (11 total), this was the BEST. It was because of the people. They always made you feel welcomed. I went into town with a little over $800. I returned to the ship 5 days later and had $750. These people paid for everything while we were there. We met some gentlemen over there that actually came to San Diego with a girls soccer team and actually contacted us. Tried to welcome them as best we could, but these guys could definitely put away some pints! So when this movie came out, I just had to see it. Paul Hogan was fantastic!!

I agree with you about the Aussies.During my tour in Vietnam in 1970 there was a detachment assigned to our Air Force Squadron. They had C-7 Caribou aircraft like ours and shared equipment and maintenance. These guys were like no other people I ever met. Best good natured and fun even during tough times. They also could "tip a serious quantity of pints"

Michael Smith Not sure what you’re talking about, a lot of offers were made after the Dundee movies, in fact he wrote, and starred in several movies after that. To be able to actually write, and star in your own film is a rarity in Hollywood. The point that was being made in this video was it is nearly impossible to best your own first film when it is a mega hit like Croc Dundee 1 was. That movie put Australia on the map! There really isn’t enough that can be said about how much impact that movie had around the world. He handled his career quite nicely considering his circumstances. He’s a legend, and a good man.

I think his character is pretty much stereotypical for Australian men of his generation. And women too! There is a unmistakable confidence exuded when you can be relaxed and modest but to still have that edge about you - it's what left American's in awe (and still leaves the Pommie cricketers in awe!!!!!)

I didn’t get to see the Paul Hogan shows until I was an adult and they too are fantastic. He’s a true gentleman in my opinion and the fact he can still take the piss outta himself proves he’s far more mature than 99% of actors out there.
