Hackett and Lynde hated each other. Hackett was mocking Lynde with the excessive laughter. He believed Lynde's answers were scripted.

Not true. They may not have liked each other but Buddy’s laugh was genuine. The combination of the punchlines written for Lynde combined with his excellent delivery of those particular jokes were right up Buddy’s alley and enough to crack him up.

You're so very welcome! I'm a Paul Lynde fan myself. & I've loved him so much since I was a youngin & I've loved everything that he was in. Even the movie that was a flop called "Rabbit Test " the ratings were so bad but I liked it cuz it was stupid and that he was in there.

@@PaulLyndeBlue Thanks. I've never heard of "Rabbit Test" so I'll look it up. He was just so funny, with that fantastic laugh. I adored "The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop" and "It's The Wolf! It's The Wolf!" His own show was on here as well in the 70s and he was great in "Bewitched." Yet only one friend I've talked with (of my age) seems to remember him and that friend loved him, too. I think Paul Lynde had a difficult life and wish he had been able to know how loved he was...so what you've posted online is there for everybody and that's brilliant.

Paul Lynde was one of the funniest, most brilliant people in show business. Sad, in a way, that the majority of these people here are now deceased. What passes for entertainment today, is nothing compared to the greats we had back then. And many of these jokes would be prohibited in today's "Progressive" society.

It amazes me looking back at these clips how many genuine stars appeared on this show as opposed to people who merely pretend to be stars as in Dancing with. Also, I love the way Buddy Hackett roars with laughter at Paul Lynde, but he shouldn't try to step on Paul's lines. He's just no match. Nobody is.

Thank you Thomas! I agree with you entirely that it seems like the newer celebrities aren’t really trying as hard they are just pretending and it’s not ok in my opinion. I love(d) Paul Lynde a lot always have and always will! I’m so glad that people actually care about Paul and what he did all throughout Hollywood Squares and Bewitched. 😊 Also I’m not a fan of Buddy Hackett running over Paul’s lines it ruins the moment.

That was 1971. His TV detective show "Dan August" was just cancelled. The subsequent appearances on this show saved his career. It was stated in Peter Marshall's book about the show 20+ years ago.

I'd love to give you 100 thumbs up if I could! But I can't! :( But myself, my relatives and best friends also hated Buddy Hackett & also same for his laugh. I hate that he wouldn't keep his mouth shut during any of the episodes when other people are talking I've seen so far (I've been watching these as well as the full episodes & he makes me really frustrated.) If you listen closely to the full episode with the volume turned up a bit louder you'll hear whispering and it is coming from Buddy (not every episode but a lot of those that he is in) you'd also hear a few female whispering as well but it's further away from the microphone.

Then you probably don’t like Match Game or Family Feud or Password. 😬😕
