Jimi was always a Sir Paul guy...McCartney was hip enough to be at the very front of the line of British rock stars, acknowledging his genius, right from the get go! ☆ At the time of Jimi's death, there was a famous telegram from Miles Davis, regarding the formation of a supergroup project. They had one rehearsal; Sir Paul, Jimi, Miles & Tony Williams on drums. Apparently, Miles wasn't to keen on the white, Englishman idea. Jimi called him on it, too. Though also, initially apprehensive, Williams, became immediately all smiles, after jamming with the Beatle. Greats like Jimi, had the pick of the field and chose PM for the project...very telling, indeed!

He's a horrible lead player. What do you know about this subject. I love Paul's work, but get real. This video shows how mediocre he is as a lead guitarist. What is your background ? Do you play ? Do your really know anything about the subject? Paul has influence me greatly. I love his bass work, his songwriting, his singing, his piano playing, his studio production work.... but get real. When I song write, when I play all the instruments on the two CDs that I've released, they've both been influenced by Paul. He's a great musician, but a guy can't be everything. And as a lead guitarist, he's very mediocre. I could go to Guitar Center and find 16 year old kids that could play lead better than Paul's lead playing. He is having fun in this video, though. And, the audience is having fun and that's great. But don't mistake his lead guitar playing as being anything other than mediocre. If you do, it either means that you don't know anything about the subject, or that you're so star struck that you lie to yourself. Keep it real. (PS: I know that I'm going to open myself up for a bunch of criticism, but to show your where I'm comming from, and how much Paul has influence me, give this tune a listen. I played all instrument, Including a coffee can for a drum. You can hear Paul's bass playing all over this tune, despite it being a jazz tune. That last half has lead guitar playing on it. This is one man band stuff. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZCcaaiAa5ermsU

Interesting read on Paul and Jimi: “On the 21st of October 1969, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and the drummer Tony Williams sent a telegram to Paul McCartney (who was a big fan of Jimi). "We are recording and LP together this weekend in New York - STOP - How about coming in to play bass - STOP - Peace - Jimi Hendrix Miles Davies (sic) Tony Williams." On October 22, Peter Brown, who worked for the Beatles' record label, replied on behalf of Paul: "Ref. cable received from Hendrix, Davies and Williams. Paul McCartney away from London on holiday, not expected to return for two weeks." When the ex-Beatle was later shown the telegram, he was stunned "Am I dreaming? Is it a joke? Where did you find that?" The documents come from Yazid Manou, the French Hendrix specialist, who discovered them while researching on the web-sites of The Hard Rock Café. One document is at Key West (Florida 2005) and the other in Prague (Czech Republic 2012). "How is this possible? Jimi! Jimi wanted to play with me and I find out now? Why?" McCartney suddenly realized that October 21, 1969 had been a special day: "An american radio had just announced that I was dead and it had spread worldwide. The Beatles were in a difficult period. I went to my house in Scotland and I didn't want to be joined... so, I never got this telegram. I was dreaming to play with Jimi. We knew each other. I remember having seen him playing at The Speakeasy Club, in London, in 1966 : Jimi was astonishing, breathless, impossible to categorise. I remember that he had played his famous version of "Hey Joe" and a song of Howlin' Wolf. I have never played with him; I thought that we would have all the time in the world. And he died one year after; he was 27. When, in 1967, I was one of the art directors of the Monterey Festival, I got him invited." Unknown in the USA, Hendrix exploded onto the scene, thanks to that concert. "What could Jimi, Miles, Tony and I have done in a studio ? I know I would have rather played guitar than bass... or both. Jimi had no limits. He brought together psychedelic rock, electric blues, gospel... and his technique remains matchless. For 40 years, I recalled his genius in pretty all of my concerts." Evidently moved, McCartney adds "It is at the same time my biggest missed opportunity and also a great news... an inspiration to write new songs." Another interesting detail- Manou managed to get Peter Brown on the phone to ask him about the telegram and informed him of fan’s angry reactions to the missed opportunity - Brown promptly hung up on him!

I read the comments of couple youngsters who suppose know to play guitar and criticize Paul approach to Jimi song and his poor technique.. Maybe some of those have managed some metallica or megadeth songs and now they proudly think they are awesome. To play good technically is only first step and there is looong way from technical player to good player. Jimi was for example not only good but supreme, there is also long way from good to supreme, but still I consider Paul good guitar player. You may ask why ?? Think about it you will get it one day, I hope so. I was always in awe how some old rock or blues guitarist play couple of seem to be simple riffs but it sounded so awesome and when myself played it it sounded dead, robotic. It may take a lot time or not to get that right feel but if you drop ego you start learning it just happen and suddenly you know it. Jimi song Are You Experienced refers to so many levels of human life experiences it is endless like the sky !!

Just a little anecdote about the grace and kindness of the late Jimi Hendrix.He played and presented his musical compositions like masterpieces. "Foxy Lady" became the dream standard for vocals along with "Purple Haze".His stage presence was so powerful you could hear a pin drop.The outfits he wore were often silky, satiny or velvety, paisley, tie dye, frock coats and jabot frill shirts made in the finest London Boutiques.His focus was on the softening of sound from the microphone and he was continuously adjusting the amplifiers. Jimi took good care of his guitars as a rule, and would only entrust someone like the virtuoso Eric Clapton to help him tune an electric guitar. Blinding lights and loudness never outshone the magical mystery of the "experience". He shared his songs generously with the gifted stars and likewise Bob Dylan let him cover "All Along The Watchtower". Ringo Starr had the same elegant taste in clothes and took to helping Jimi' find refined accommodation in a London flat.He did learn Sgt. Pepper"s Lonely Heart's Club Band in a few days, and I wonder if that gave his contemporaries real insight into their work. I wonder how futuristic he could have sounded if he had lived to old age .Surely Miles Davis and John Coltrane would have seen a refined progressive change to jazz in later year sessions.Nice instrumental tribute to 'Black Majesty's" unforgettable "Sand Castle Magic ' of a Purple Haze dimension. Lovingly, FOXY.

There is no such thing as proper guitar technique.. The blues players threw out that playbook.. a re-wrote it. New music writing had to be made to transcribe it.. that’s how inventive it was..!! Each player plays their own way.. those who criticize.. don’t know a thing about music.

@dala55683 жыл бұрын
Constructive criticism doesn’t give an individual a pass nor make the critic ‘silly’. McCartney’s musical abilities are undisputed however this would have received a few quizzical looks in a back room pub performance. Remember those screaming girls in the Beatles early concerts? I’d rather take the view of another musically competent person than someone with unquestioning devotion.

@Kupcho583 жыл бұрын
I don't know about Paul being "better" than John or that he took a back seat as anything in the band. Honestly, if anyone took a "back seat" in that band, it would have had to have been George. It was all Lennon/McCartney with a token Harrison song chucked in. And Paul was represented pretty well; lots of songs. And he seems to have been okay working with them for several years. Both Paul and John wrote some incredible music; most of which came out of The Beatles as a group. They worked very well as a team and as competitors and they have a truck load of songs to prove it. But in my opinion, neither one ever really touched "Beatle" level music again as solo artists. They did produce some great songs, but nothing as revolutionary as the songs Helter Skelter or Tomorrow Never Knows were. So there was something special about the three of them (George too (not so much Ringo (sorry Ringo))) together that was an honest form of real magic. The combination was just right. And I'm sure that each of them learned a lot from the others.
