Lyrics: Sittin' in the stand of the sports arena, waiting for the show to begin Red lights, green lights, strawberry wine A good friend of mine follows the stars Venus and Mars are alright tonight Standing in the hall Of the great cathedral Waiting for the transport to come Starship 21zna9 A good friend of mine Studies the stars Venus and mars Are alright tonight Come away on a strange vacation Holiday hardly begun Run into a good friend of mine Told me her sign Reach for the stars Venus and mars Are alright tonight

I can remember piling into my friends small bedroom way way back in the 70's. Glad I found this posting, thanks Peter van der Ham! Aloha!!!

Excellent. Such a great song - I've always felt that he rather threw it off merely as a short Intro' (both to the album and to the song 'Rock Show') - and really never made the most of it. Wonderfully atmospheric...
@2msvalkyrie5293 жыл бұрын
Only McCartney could have written something as good as this and then simply used it as an Intro . Anyone else would have made it the longest track on the album. And then released it as a single. Simply : guy's a genius !

Nicely combined, Peter! :-) I've always loved The Wings' "Band on the Run", and "Venus and Mars", both albums in their entirety. For me, the best of Sir Paul's Post-Beatles band period. I used to play in a band at the time "Band on the Run" came out, and we "tortured" the neighbors next to our rehearsal space by playing "Band on the Run" (the title track), over and over again, very poorly. LOL! But they were all good sports and took it in stride. :-) Now, a measely 40+ years later, I'm working on a few "Thank You!" albums, to... well... say "thank you" to those who inspired little me on my musical path. "Venus and Mars" is definitely going on my "Thank you, Paul!" album, which will probably have to come out in at least three volumes, as there are so many McCartney songs that inspired me. Again... thanks, Peter, for this wonderfully "merged" track! Live long and prosper! ;-)

Always loved this spectral opener . Has me spellbound throughout. One of Maccas deep ,deep cuts. First heard it at fourteen, knowing little of the backstory. His voice seemed to be coming from a divine scource ..or whatevs. Growing up in the Seventies , he was constantly maligned by music critics and seen as a lightweight compared to Lennon. Certainly in this country, Music Papers held great sway. By the time of ' Ye Olde Punk Rock ' His very name alone had become a pejorative . To even refer to him without spitting could get you beaten up by a passing Sid Vicious or even an absolutely fuming Siouxie Sioux. Of course things were way more tribal then. And of course everyone wore hats .
