Hence "one can still be shocked". I know Matt has said he asked them for evidence of wrongdoing and none was provided. This same thing happens a lot of the time by people who assume wrongdoing and warn, but cannot show evidence of said wrongdoing, so then if you get sacked from your job, or banned from a forum etc, it can still come as a shock because you expect them to realize they're being stupid not to carry on regardless.

Merson is a man who left school, straight into Football. Then straight into Football commentary. He's never had to think about anything and still thinks of the world as if he's in school. The only difference to most school children is he doesn't have the angst and the want to break free because he's past puberty long ago and is given everything he wants (money, fame). But he's never moved on mentally. He still sees where he works as a place where him and his "colleagues" are subservient children without any responsibility other than to do what they're told. He basically acts like a chronologically old child.

Merson, fine player though he was, has had serious issues with addiction. It's understandable that he might have felt that he had enough to contend with. Maybe man who loses £7m to his addiction needs to continue to earn his living. However, Le Tissier is an intelligent and highly articulate man who appears to be more financially solvent. It's highly commendable that he spoke from the heart in-spite of the consequences, namely getting sacked by Sky Sports. Merson might not be best-placed to object to living in an Orwellian dystopia. But Le Tissier clearly did not feel comfortable with what was going on in the world at the height of the Covid-19 lockdown hysteria. If freedom of speech means anything at all then it surely grants us the right to say that which others (especially the powers-that-be) do not wish to hear.

@racingspoon4 ай бұрын
Sometimes just being concerned with your personal life and not getting bogged down with the ‘bigger picture’ is the best way to be. The trouble with 24 hours news and social media is being deluded into a sense of having to be concerned with everything that’s going on even when you have zero ability to change it. Ignorance can indeed be bliss.
