Yes mostly instinct due to pattern recognition

It’s time-dependent. For instance, Pogba may choose an elastico or reverse-elastico after analyzing the situation. The croqueta and Zidane are more of an instinctual reaction than a pre-planned skill. You can tell by who takes initiative. If an attacker makes the first move, it’s usually thought about. If the defender takes initiative, then the attacker, generally, doesn’t have time to think of a skill and it’s more about muscle memory.
