this is me babbling as usual but.. defenders commit because neymar is a threat if you let him get past you and invade the area directly, this wouldnt work if the defender knows he can stop you in a 1 on 1, they defend the worst case scenario. neymar's dribbling has always been fascinating to me because whenever he attempts to do something he always moves the ball at such angles that he gets the advantage after the 1st step which is when the defender can react after which he's chasing. starting his cuts on the left while using his left leg and then repositioning himself so he can play it with his right is so underrated and genius. he's so light on his feet thats another thing us amateurs suffer from. wish you'd talk more about how he prepares his feet to execute whatever move it is, especially the back leg. its especially apparent in the 9:43 move he did taking a couple of steps to prepare and twist his body so he can almost do a la croqueta but delayed by a few steps if you get what i mean, he always positions his anchor foot at such angle that it allows him to propel himself straight to where he can reach the ball within 2 or 3 steps, its magnificent preparation footwork 10:51 i disagree with you the defender who doesnt see neymar (carvajal, is it) sees that iniesta is free and goes to block the line, neymar is inconsequential since its not the worst case scenario. after that he should've gone to the right to stretch the defense and leave messi unmarked (and out of defenders' sight) then he could've attempted a pass instead he slowed down and passed to messi when messi was already retreating and with back to goal, not ideal

Idg this - the worst case scenario is always the player getting behind you as a defender, them committing is exactly what they shouldn't do to prevent this. I think they instead commit because of his subtle feints which people don't really see on tv (even things as minor as where he holds his hands and how he shapes his body)

After you've been in the same dribbling situation a 1000x you then instinctually know what to do without thought. It then becomes second nature just like brushing your teeth. When you're brush your teeth you're now in flow state believe it or not. You've done it that many times you don't even use your brain! Again competence breeds confidence! Jesus loves you bro.
