He was a Staple of my Saturday Mornings. A Tradition every single Christmas time with his Christmas Special (That I proudly still watch today). Hell, I wore out my recorded VHS copy of that special so much as a kid I'd watch it even when it wasn't December. I had the talking Pee-Wee Doll, Pee-Wee Pajamas, the original figures and Pee-Wee's Playhouse Playset. His movies were Iconic. Whether he was the lead or co-star, or even made a quick cameo. His Broadway specials legendary. He was one of those actors where when you're a kid, a lot of his jokes went over your head, but as you grew up, you understood them and realized how much of a comedic GENIUS This man was. Never had the chance to meet him, but I will truly, truly miss him as he was a HUGE part of my Childhood. There will NEVER be another Pee-Wee. He was only one of a kind. Just like the will only be ONE Paul Reubens. Rest In Peace. "I know you are, but what am I?"

Paul and Pee Wee are the reasons I know anything about my favorite architecture and interior design concepts: Googie and Midcentury modern. So much of who I am came from him. RIP Paul Reubens. 😢❤

I tried writing this comment the other day, and for some reason it didn’t take. But just wanted to say how very much I love your channel. Paul Reubens was not my most favorite actor, but I still love all the information, and the way you share your content. Another plus about your channel is your audience. I know that may seem like a weird thing to say, but it’s nice to see that the kind of people that follow you are mature in character, and there’s no fighting on this channel. I absolutely love that. You find that all too often on other channels. But not here, Tampa Jay. No, not at all. It’s peaceful here. Thank you (and your followers) for that. 💜🙏🏻

I’ve seen all your videos on Paul and it’s so cool that my father in law and my husband have lived in Sarasota for 30+ years. My father in law worked at Ringling and from watching your videos I’ve been to Jacks as of July this year for my bday. Peewee was a HUGE influence on my childhood with PeeWees Playhouse show, my sister and I never missed an episode❤ still can’t believe he’s gone, what a talent. NEVER be another PeeWee.

Thanks for showing this. I did not know that Peewee was a year ahead of me in school only a few miles away from my Tampa high school. I was also active in theater in school and was on staff and wrote for our literary magazine. A group of us on staff went down to Sarasota in 1971 to the Asolo (I always pronounced it awe-slow, not sure if that was correct) theater to take in a play. I took lots of pictures but only one survives of us picnicking on the lawn near the parking lot. I have such fond memories of that day. Years later I took my husband to the Ringling Museum and he was quite impressed. My son grew up watching Peewee, so we watched it with him and loved it. Our family's favorite catch phrase was "I know you are, but what am I?" This was a great tribute video!

Hey Jay....the area Paul went to school in was the older part that faces 41. Much of what is in the back wasn't there just yet when he attended. Also..I worked with a woman that went to school with him and said he was a cool guy. I haven't looked but have you done a Sarasota video on Macho Man. He was Sarasota High '70 and he was married on Lido. Also, his parents house was in Colonial Oaks, I think. A neighbor of his told me one time that he was a complete maniac and would ride his dirt bike down the street on a wheely with the front tire off. I'm sure you could dig up a lot more on him and locations he frequented.

Love Pee Wee❤🎉 In my mind, watching his movies and of course his tv show and comedy specials, he really helped form my sense of humor what is funny to me😊 I have so many good memories of Saturday mornings watching Pee Wee’s Playhouse😍 He really is, in my eyes an American treasure and will be greatly missed❤

Isn't that funny who we choose to write to in school as idealist young children? I never heard Paul wrote to Walt Disney. Politics drives me nuts, yet I chose to write a letter of support to Ted Kennedy when he got in water trouble with Mary Jo Kopechne in Chappaquiddick. I guess that's when they figured I volunteered to marry a future dead Gov Spy, in retrospect. What a total doofus I was at 14.🇺🇲🤔🤦♀️😎🇺🇲

I was born in ‘83 so Paul was certainly a part of my childhood. I can still remember the talking chair from PeeWee’s Playhouse and the word of the day. Fun video and very well done. Oh and I really would have thought that “incident” would have happened in New York. Was surprised that was Sarasota.

@TampaJay Your videos are inspiring as always. He next time you’re in Miami, I have one for you. Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s there was a local PBS celebrity who was known for sharing his love for astronomy to the masses; Jack Horkheimer the Star Gazer a.k.a. The Star Hustler. He lived at 9901 West Suburban Drive, and was the next door neighbor of my grandparents, he knew our family well. That and the site of the old Miami Planetarium, across the street from Viscaya Gardens was where he used to film his shows. :)

During my high school senior year in Pinellas County, a friend of mine knew Paul Rubin, and we I went with him to meet Paul at his house. He struck me as a regular guy and we talked about the usual stuff 18 year-old boys discuss. Never saw him again.

Short story as a kid I begged my parents to take me to a Ringling Bros Circus 🎪 in New Orleans and the man Himself pulled up in a limo as we were leaving, stopped open the door and Invited me personally to be in the circus. Mr. PT. Barnum himself. We got to all meet him take a picture and my parents declined off course...but wow that was cool out of thousands and thousands of kids leaving he chose me. I'm also a Big Pee Wee fan. As a child probably my favorite movie and loved the TV show on Saturday mornings.

I remember his HBO Special filmed at the Roxy; which also featured the Late, Great Phil Hartman as Capt. Carl. He had a bit part in an 80s movie called Midnight Madness; he can be seen at an arcade using a quarter dispensing pistol. The movie also, features a teenage Michael J. Fox. As Always Thanks for the Adventure and Insight of his Roots in Sarasota. 🎭 ✨️ And, I Too Enjoy a Good Tiger Tail Donut 👍
