I grew up in this era, but your reviews of this group has given me a whole new appreciation of them. Thanks!

Another classic. It has a bit of a Beach Boys vibe to it with the chorus.

There first big hit was "Just Like Me" released on January 1, 1965.

I idolized them as a kid growing up. Paul Revere, the keyboard player once described their sound as sort of a mix of a smoother and perhaps more sophisticated version of a Rolling Stones-like sound with some Beach Boys-like harmonies. I know, there are those who probably consider this a little too over-the-top, but, that was his description. Between 1965 and 1972 they had 17 singles/songs released that landed somewhere in the top 40 on one of the two primary charts at that time. Four of their hit songs made the top six while another landed at number one. During the mid-sixties for a few years, they were featured on a popular long-running music show and actually had their own show in 1968. I encourage you to keep going down the rabbit hole, there are a lot of other great songs as well!

These guys were the kings of rock 'n' roll in the Pacific Northwest of the United States in the mid 60s. Played the dancehall circuit in Washington and Oregon. Best ever show dance group. Actually played ar my high school graduation party in 1965.

An interesting side note to this song is that Mark Lindsey (lead singer) co-wrote this song with Terry Melcher (Doris Day's son) when they lived together in a house in the Hollywood Hills - the same house where the Manson murders happened (Lindsey was no longer living there when the murders happened).

As a child in 60s, I grew up listening to the 60's songs on the radio and was very much in tune with them. Thanks to my older brothers. I was a teenager in the 70s and experienced classic rock first hand that everybody raves about now and rightly so. If it wasn't for the experimentation of pop and rock music in the sixties all of the sounds like heavy metal, hard rock, prog and funk wouldn't have happened. Even though the 70s will always remain "my era" coming of age, as an "older" man, I've come to appreciate the music of the 60s, even more than the music of the 70s, if that's possible.

Now you guys know why this band was so highly popular back in 1960's....I used to play them quite a bit!!! Just good hard stuff!!!
@wearinganapron16 күн бұрын
Yes, they were VERY popular! We girls had their posters up on our bedroom walls, ripped-out magazine pictures taped inside our school lockers, and played their records over and over!

WOW! If you combine The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys you have this! I'm guessing you have done The Beach Boys GOOD VIBRATIONS by now??? You have to if not! Great Reaction!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼

In the mid-60s, they were right up there with the very best bands of the day. They continued to drop excellent tunes for years, but there was a period when they were just overwhelmingly popular -- and with good reason. "Him or Me -- What's it Gonna Be" is another excellent song well worth a listen.

My high school garage band used to play a lot of Paul Revere songs. This brings back a lot of memories. They also did a couple of "novelty songs" (quirky, funny songs). One you might like is "Snoopy vs The Red Baron" which is a silly song about a running gag in a popular comic strip at the time called "Peanuts".
