Recently came back from a trip up snowdon in the worst conditions you can think of, driving rain, 60mph winds, fog and spots of hail. Was wearing my paramo helki with a thin fleece top underneath and was worried it wouldnt cope BUT on gettting back to the carpark took it off and my fleece top was only slightly damp so yh top notch kit glad i invested in it.

One could debate well into the night about walking gear. One topic which wins out is Paramo. being the most breathable & warm jacket the market, For hill walking rambles.

Paul, great video and like your relaxed honest approach. Please do more videos like this along with your normal product ones. We also like Hannah too ! Question, as I am just getting into Wild Camping, if I had to buy 3-5 items from Trekitt for a good trip camping - what would you recommend ? Finally, Saul is a credit to your company, fantastic service and guidance.

The RAB VR Alpine Light I got from you last autumn has hardly been off my back, a superb jacket that does all that RAB and your review say. I layer accordingly from either a light tee for warmish days or up to two base layers for colder hikes. The acid test to how well it works is when others are layering up and down I find that with the VR I don’t have to. Considering it’s relatively lower cost the value for money equation is amazing.
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
HI David, I'm so glad that the VR Alpine worked out for you. It is indeed a brilliant bit of kit and with the right layers it'll work all year round. Paul.

Q & A question, aimed at multiday hikes as I'm planning on some post lockdown. Question: if using a gas canister based cooking system, would you recommend a couple of smaller canisters or one larger canister? Not from a cost perspective but from a weight/efficient use of fuel perspective.

I'm a fan of merino or merino/synthetic combination underpants in 3 seasons. It's just more comfortable than cotton. Wicks sweat out and you can get different weights and lengths depending on the conditions. Same with hiking pants. I wear Haglofs Lizard in summer with their heavier Rugged range for the other 3 seasons. I only tried insulated pants last year for a hike in Greenland and I was delighted with them tbh. Even with thick leggings and softshell pants I've sometimes felt a bit cold below - 10 deg C with wind chill. The Mid Fjell insulated pants with lighter 175g merino 3/4 lengths was a better combo. I was always told you'd overheat with insulated pants but it's mapped with varying insulation levels so it's quite comfortable.

I love the “one take Paul” moniker. I am surprised Paramo isn’t opening up any new accounts at the moment in the UK. The dogs are always a great addition to the videos: Makes you seem more human if you ask me. Looking forward to the next video in the series. Signing off from the US.

How do you layer with the Pajaro? Would a down layer be counter productive?
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I certainly would not wear a down layer underneath, I'd melt! Most of the time I've been using the Pajaro this winter with just an Arcteryx Satoro long-sleeve base-layer. The only other layer I've needed when it's been really cold (-5 Celsius) is my trusty Atom LT vest. For extreme conditons, or if you're going to be stationary for a long time, over-layering is better with the Paramo, simply chuck another insulated jacket over the top. I hope that helps. Paul.

I am wondering why you don't sell gear from The North Face or Patagonia. And what do you make of TNF's Futurelight waterproofing system?
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Max, we’re wondering too, both those major brands have stated that they are not opening any new accounts in the UK. Maybe a bit of consumer pressure will change their minds? Thanks for watching. Paul.

Thanks for the great vid Some questions please: 1) what would be your choice of a go-to shell jacket for most weather conditions (regardless of whether trekitt stocks the brand....) 2) I’m slightly obsessed with Arcteryx as a brand but should I be? Are they over priced compared to brands such as Mountain Equipment or Patagonia or are they superior products? 3) Have the new GTX range been compromised in performance to be more eco-friendly? I’ve heard that some brands are experiencing a greater degree of wetting out then they used to Oh and have you heard of the UK brand Jottnar and what do you think? Cheers and stay safe

Shame about the Paramo situation, I have a few bits of their stuff and your right it is good stuff. One criticism I have is that they do need reproofing and looking after abit more than standard waterproof gear. Not a big issue... but I did have the proofing fail spectacularly halfway up Ben Nevis last year, and that was one miserable day on the hills. Like you say has its uses on day hikes etc. But I wouldn't trust it on multiday stuff.
@trekitt3 жыл бұрын
That must have been a day to remember! I agree - I've tried some Paramo bits in the Lakes and they're lovely things to wear, but I'd still opt for a 'traditional' Gore-Tex jacket for mountainous terrain. Harry
