What many do seem to not realize is that Jimmy White has been the main rival if you like for two separate eras, both Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry. This says a lot about him and even though he unfortunately never had that killer instinct to kill finals off, (which is why I think he never won the world title), he was still there for all that time competing.

An amazing talent, and without him snooker wouldn't be a tenth as popular as it is today. Sadly, he let himself down badly. I think he realises that now, but its too late. People will always love Jimmy, because he was brilliant but vulnerable. The ultimate loveable rogue off the table and a genius on it.

But Steven Hendry is the best commentator on the telly. He says like it is and describes it from a players point of view. Although we’ve got Ronnie now. These were Snookers best days

Jimmy White effectively taught me how to play snooker by imitating his 'twitchy' bridge hand and getting the 'rub of the green'. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a cue signed by Jimmy left on a brick wall, as if it was meant for me. It was a bloody magical moment but I can't blame him for my lack of other breaks. It's sad that he missed so many opportunities in his prime but he left a great impression on more people than money will ever mean.

When I lived in Bristol a new pro, Johnson-Allen, told a story about his first tournament. Two pros came up to introduce themselves; Jimmy and Dennis Taylor. A gentleman is our Jim.

Yeah, I remember Mark Johnston Allen from when I lived in Bristol in the mid 80s and I played club snooker in the city. I believe he lived in the same road as me in a Downend. I think he's an administrative director in the game and is still in the Bristol area.

i always remember watching jimmy white vs steve davis in a packed pub in the 84 final and it was the final session on the monday night - the vast majority of people were cheering jimmy to win but i remember there was a small but substantial amount of people in the pub who wanted davis to win- it has always intrigued me why those people were were not supporting jimmy white that night= white and davis were both english so there was no question of nationality coming into the equation, davis had already won the title twice by this time, so he had already achieved the ultimate in the sport, jimmy paid an exciting fearless brand of snooker, he was an immaculate sportsman, he was always gracious in defeat , yet some people in that pub wanted steve davis to win it takes all sorts

Gutted every time Jimmy got beat in the finals. If only he had dedicated himself more like others do. Always took that wrong decision in a frame. The opposition always knew he would go for any pot on the table. If only he had held back at times I'm sure he would of won the worlds if he had. He knew only one way and that was all out attack.

He’s a bit unfortunate in coming at the same time as Hendry,who was basically a winning machine.Totally nerveless,absolutely ice cool whereas if Jimmy had a fault is that he was a slight ‘bottler’.He should really have two world titles under his belt,’92 and ‘94.
