The Matter Smart Home Standard ( formerly known as Project Chip ) will act as an overarching language to allow products such as Philips Hue to talk to not only Zigbee solutions for other provides such as Ikea, but also allow them to talk directly to other smart home devices that use other protocols too.
The question is which providers will sign up to Matter, and how will it effect the wider Smart Home community?
If there's any confusion: Matter is brought to you by the CSA, who used to be the Zigbee Alliance, who then released CHIP recently changed it's name to Matter, but they're still totally the Zigbee alliance, but occasionally calling themselves the CSA, and Zigbee definitely won't be obsolete except it will, and things won't be compatible but they will be complementary.
