Great stuff - love the trick with the rice and the thermos to save on gas. A real top tip😀👍
@houstydude1262 жыл бұрын
Brilliant video. I’ve just bought a Minimo and have a good collection of thermos flasks as well. Videos like this one could help a lot of people with the rising cost of living at the moment. Doesn’t have to be this combination, you could show people how to cook really cheap and fast on a “Normal camping stove” as well. Improvise, adapt, overcome 👍👍👍 😉

Great use for the thermos flask. I usually fill mine (on a camp) with 'special-brew' ice cubes with a dash of Jack Daniels. Everything I cook tastes great after I've emptied the flask.

Yes!! I’ve been looking for a series that makes recipes for backpacking. I love backpacking but hate the freeze dried meals. Cooking something fresh is always worth the extra weight for me. Thank you!

It’s great to see how different people approach meals to suit their needs and wants while in the outdoors. Interesting take on this meal, looked bloody lush and it’s great to see more people embracing the ‘process’ when it comes to cooking in the outdoors.

Great idea for a video Paul, to be fair sometimes the ideas for cooking can be difficult for some. A satisfying meal like that after a days walk can really make a trip successful.

Awesome Paul, I'm constantly correcting people who say jetboils are only good for boiling water, I've had most models of the jetboil and the minimo is the best, I've even cooked fresh popcorn in it with cinnamon oil.
@markatchison99742 жыл бұрын
I've cooked everything possible on my Soto (including boiling water) & it cost me £43. You're seeking ways of justifying the £100+ price tags. I can cook meat in my kettle, but it isn't designed for such tasks.
@trooperwolfie2 жыл бұрын
@@markatchison9974 I'm not trying to justify anything, I paid £40 for my minimo, it works well for cooking, the simmer control is excellent.

I don't normally make comments but this was a realy good recipe Paul The only changes I made was to prep the veg before I started the hike Saves space in the bag and easier when it is cold or wet (Scotland) Instead of tomato puree Used a sachet of tomato source
@gruttewibe7613 күн бұрын
On the other hand, when it's warmer weather, or when there's more time between buying the veg and preparing it, it's better to leave them whole, in "nature's packaging".

Paul, I was so excited by the use of a food flask for cooking I went out this afternoon and bought one. This evening I cooked your Chorizo Jambalaya (substituted chicken for the smoked sausage as I was in the kitchen) and it was delicious - a previous comment said they don't eat that well at home! I agree! This has really opened up the world of one burner cooking for me and adds yet another layer to the pleasure of camping. Thank you!

I’m thinking of investing in one of those vacuum sealers so I can prepare a meal at home, vacuum seal it, in a bag and then freeze. For those single overnight trips you can set off with the meal still frozen and then do a boil in the bag when you land at your camp. Great recipe Paul - Tnanks for sharing.
@TheRowls2 жыл бұрын
if you get some Nayar bags off Aliexpress, you can cook, heat seal (I use my vacuum sealer to do this), then freeze - that's what I do. when out camping, just heat the Nayar bag in water for about 7 mins, job done. Be careful with vac sealing wet products, as they will wreck standard vac sealers, so a little tip, freeze first in a takeaway container, once frozen, then seal.

Nice work! When I cook rice in the wild, I use a sachet of Uncle Ben's. It's pre cooked and just needs warming. The recommended method is microwave but the pack says you can also just add a few spoonfuls of water and pan cook. Love your work.👍

My co-workers are getting on the Jetboil and spirit stove train. If I'm not camping, I bring them to work and cook my lunch up in 15 to 20 minutes. No sense in letting them sit around waiting for the next trip. After seeing me have a cook outside or in the backroom, one by one, they're buying some kind of stove. No more microwaving when you can chop up some fresh veg and fry up, boil or warm up some meat or eggs or rice and have a good lunch.
@simonwoodward4382 жыл бұрын
That's pretty much the recipe I use for teaching students on DofE though I stopped using the fresh onion and replaced it with onion flakes because the fresh was stinking their bags out. Good food which ticks a lot of boxes and can easily made as a veggie dish, I call it 'Good Jollop'!
