Hey Paul, any chance you would be willing to do a full blown "1080 showdown" pitting all the aftermarket cards at each other? Would love to know the bottom line - Which aftermarket 1080 is the best bang for your buck.

I actually have the card (also PP, bought it as B-stock for ~960 dollars; I paid 850 euros, the European market is more expensive regarding PC hardware) and since mine was B-stock the box is slightly damaged and I had bent fins as well as the whole metal top was bent a little on one side. I don't think that's a big deal though because it was very easy to bend it back in the correct position, same goes for the fins (actually, they're even easier to bend) so it can be a downside, but don't be too upset about it.

Heads up for those considering this card. I picked up one of these with the premium pack that came with the front ports that are specifically for VR. Turns out, after weeks talking to customer service, the front HDMI's will not work with the Oculus Rift. They did say they are working on it, but I have also talked extensively with Oculus tech support, and they do not seem as optimistic that a solution exists.

I don't know why more coolers don't use contrarotational fans. They maximize airflow and when used on planes with propellers, produce some of the fastest propeller driven craft ever like the Soviet Tu-95 Heavy Bomber. I could see it being a good method for overclocking on an air cooled card.

I'll consider a 1080 or 1070 if they price it at the MSRP...
@CorruptedNuk3r
@CorruptedNuk3r 8 жыл бұрын
none of them are going to be priced at MSRP because MSRP is assuming they dont add any special cooling or anything, which they all do. This one imo is the best deal because they also throw in all the other stuff for the same price as the founders

Please, stop this way of thinking. The founders is a rip off. There's no reason it should cost that much when AIB cards WILL be better. AIB cards usually cost within $10-30 more than reference with special cards like the lightning going all the way up to $100 over reference but now you have replacement aib blower cards costing $50 more than stated MSRP.

I like all the extra's the card comes with especially the high bandwidth bridge. I purchased the Zotac amp extreme edition 1080 at Newegg because the price was about right .So many greedy merchants out there bumping up the prices.Best thing to do is not buy at there crazy prices. Also i'm a strong believer in buying the very best card you can buy & skipping a generation . My previous video cards was Geforce 780 SC & Geforce 780 FTW both cards was by EVGA . With the new Zotac I can see a difference. Anyone who has a 980Ti should wait , unless you just want burn your money. keep up the Great work Paul.

Here's an explanation for the "large" variation (120 to 150 FPS) in Overwatch: 120FPS is a frame time of roughly 8.333ms. 150FPS comes down to 6.666ms. So: The difference in time required for each frame is around 1.666ms, which is roughly the same as the frame time difference between 60FPS and 67 FPS. That's the reason why it often makes sense to use frame time in addition to FPS as performance measure, since variations in very high FPS numbers can be very misleading.

I think that it's an excellent card. I personally ordered the EVGA GTX1080 FTW because it was in stock, but I would have ordered this as well if it had been in stock. I'm one of the lucky ones with this card and I absolutely love it! I got my core clock up to 2136mhz then backs down to around 2088mhz, and my memory is at 11008 or 5504. Temps don't go above 70c. I only have 1 problem with this card though, I got coil whine on my card. I've kinda forgot about it as it doesn't really bother me cause it's not too loud and I have sound canceling headphones so I never hear it or my PC in fact. Would love a bios update to be able to make use of that second 8 pin

Any 1080 model may do that, it's plain chip lottery. My Zotac 1080 AMP! (non extreme) does 2063Mhz stable (down from initial 2100+) and 5600Mhz Mem, maxing 79C @ 4K Ultra settings in Witcher or Firestrike, and has 2x8-pin power inputs. 5730 Graphic Score in Firestrike Ultra, above this unit in the video, while 80$ cheaper. What's the point of so many models out there besides aesthetics or slighty lower fan noise when all 1080 cards achieve the same OC? With the 980ti better cooling actually translated into more OC potential. This generation it's all the same across the board. Actually most FE models go to 2100Mhz @ 80C. It gets almost boring for the PC enthusiasts tbh.

Hey Paul, I'm liking your new formats of reviewing. I don't want you to become a mainstream reviewer or anything cause that would effect your creative flow. but you listed off different things that set a graphics card apart form the others. you should implement some sort of scoring system into that. like 10 stars for each factor. this would give a score out of 50 which could be converted into a * / 5 star rating system, which would give PC Newbies something to compare when looking at different brands of GPUs. If you agree with any of this up-vote so Paul can see. (Paul, give me credit if this is implemented... please?

Seems that none of the after market 10 series cards offers much more performance wise over the ref card. The biggest "gain" on all the brands appears to be "Cooler" (about 10 degs less on all of them) and "Quieter" , topped off with about a 5 or 6 extra fps over the stock card. Looks like Gigabyte is aware of this and offers a goodly amount of trinkets to make up for that. Guess it's all down to which brand card you like the look of, from the heavy,industrial looking Zotak to the unassuming look of the Gigabyte. Pretty much a level playing field for everyone.

Hey Paul, great video and review as always ;-) Would you be willing to add some GPU rendering benchmarks as well? Blender, Octanebench, Luxmark, Arionbench? It is a bit different kind of load to the GPU. Luxmark is even OpenCL, so can be compared to AMD and even kind of to CPUs. Blender is only CUDA (unless you can tweek it to OpenCL). Octane is CUDA. I think Blender and Octanebench have the most results nicely published online.

@Paul's Hardware Nice review mate. I'm afraid you forgot to mention that the card is poorly made. It actually bends if you apply some force with your thumb on it. I still think, that for 4K is still a waiting game as it is just borderline 60 fps at some beefy games which means it's not future proof if you're on the "budget"... meaning you can afford a top end card every now and then but can't swap it out every year.

I like to see a lot of extra's like this with expensive cards. I was a little upset when I got my EVGA GTX 980's. 550 dollars per card and no backplates. Evga gave you the card, a dumb sticker with a wrench, two big stickers that would look ugly on anything you put them on, and a poster that was folded and had horrible creases. Also the card was packed with cheap plastic to hold it in place like it was a 5 dollar action figure.

Since Nvida has changed SLI setups for the foreseeable future is there any reason to build a x99 build still? With a max of two graphics cards what else would you need it for?

Besides the color, this seems like THE 1080 to have. New rig goals :o

Yep the Orange accents needs to go. Would be better with a lighter titanium gray or a glossy black maybe. That way more neutral for easier matching to the Mobo.

I want to build a $2000 gaming pc for the MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 1080, what is your recommendation? By the way, why the gtx 1080 is 200 dollars higher than the official price, do you think the price will go down in several months later?

Hey Paul what do you think is worth buying an i7 6800K over an i7 6700K ? I mean if is worth the upgrade from z170 for X99 , I only do gaming is worth the extra money for gaming ?
